These guys are playing to the end no matter what ... we have a very bright future here with Jones. Times are good

The last few Fulmer years and certainly the Dooley fiasco those teams had slot of quit in them. Not these players

The team has come out in every game this year, looking unprepared in the first half. Let that sink in for a moment, every game, regardless of our opponent.

Whether you love or hate Jones, that sloppiness is on him as the head coach. We knew that if we came out and gave a good team free points in the first half, eventually someone was going to make us pay. A&M did just that, and so will Alabama next week.

I think we should fire him, Today.

:thud:

Because that's exactly what I said in my post right?

You want to give Butch all the credit in the world for the good things that this team has done, but God forbid he be held accountable for the endemic first half sloppiness displayed by the team in all six games this year.

Spot on. Too much talent on this team. Should have been a 14+ point win for the Vols yesterday.

Okay, I hold him accountable. Now what?

I can't explain the slow starts and I doubt any of our coaches can explain it either or else they would have already corrected it.

We're 5-1 and without all the turnovers we would be undefeated at 6-0 and would have beaten aTm by 2 or 3 TD's at least with over 700 yards of O.

If you think buTch or any of our coaches like to lose then you better shave your beard and change your hair color because you're not paying attention my friend.

WIN by WIN we'll earn our respect and climb the rankings...VFL...GBO!!!

I don't disagree. While I love how this team functions, execution and fundamentals lack, and it did manifest itself yesterday.

And I think everyone was right.

1. This team doesn't quit, they are talented and the staff does a fantastic job of keeping this going, and u should never count TN out.
2. How we've gone about these games, drops, missed throws, penalties, turnovers..as much as I like the result, the recipe is not sustainable, and it bit us in the butt yesterday.

I'm still proud of them. But continuing to play the way we have up to this point isn't beating Bama, and as we almost saw against App st, it could get us beat by someone we shouldn't lose to.

This team is good. But they do have to figure out how to be consistently good.

he puts the players in position to make plays, not his fault players drop easy passes and fumble. players have a level of responsibility also.

Completely agree. We have been outscored in the 1st quarter 61 to 17 and the 1st half 98 to 48. These 1st half woes finally caught up with us against T A&M. Yes, we fumbled a lot. Defense is depleted etc. but if we scored 1/2 half the points we score in the 2nd half in the 1st half, none of the games would be even close. Butch and Debord had 5 games before this one to figure this out. I am afraid that we will see the same thing against Bama.

:thud: I presume it's the Duke Energy tainted water or just the general NC vernacular but, whatever it may be, for the life of me I can't extrapolate a viable excuse for your ilk who consistently over-analyse for the subjective as you vehemently dismiss the obvious. Wasn't UT's problem the opposite last season? If, as you're decrying, this slow start syndrome is due to Butch's ineptitude, what would you suggest he may attempt to remedy the problem? I suggest you learn the game of football. Attempt this endeavor by first examining zone blocking and read/run options and some of the other complicated schemes and blend that knowledge with how to train the receivers how to look the ball into their hands and likewise training all ball carriers' how to instinctually not fumble. Fumbles and dropped passes, pal. If you'd like to examine the history of the complicated articulation of snagging an airborne inflated orb and retaining same in one's grasp......well, don't wast anyone's time. I suggest you just google it. You'd discover that some of the greatest programs in cfb history have run through this dilemma, and each and every time it's worked itself out. Do you have an answer? Should Bear Bryant or Woody Hayes or their colleagues have been fired for those historic difficulties? All I can decipher from your tearful pleas for "likes" is some desire to demonstrate you're calling the problem as it truly is...just so in the near and far future you can boastfully claim "See. I told you so." I don't have any time left for all you ubiquitous whiners. VN. We've got ourselves a new member of the Fade Society. Move over Catbone. Whatta' buncha' :cray::cray::cray::cray::cray::cray::cray::cray: :cray::cray::cray::cray::cray::cray::cray::cray:

Are there really people that question this teams effort? If there are, they are stupid and stupid people should be ignored.

First of all, paragraphs are your friend.

Second, it's obvious from your self-righteous diatribe that you are generally incapable of any sort of objective discussion of the program as it exists, but I will say this: I do not doubt that Butch is doing everything that he can think of to try and prepare this team for Saturdays, but it's obvious that after six games, that his methods are not working. He gets paid 4 million dollars a year to field this team, and we have yet to see team 120 play a full 4 quarters of football in a single game out of six.

A team that doesn't quit will win much more than it will lose, and this team has learned that lesson the hard way over the last three years. They should have been 11-2 last year and beaten Florida and Oklahoma before the bowl games; I forget if winning the Florida game would have sent them to Atlanta but in any case. They whiffed last year and this year they've learned not to whiff no matter the score. I credit Butch for keeping them focused and calm under the pressure and under the gun.

But that said, I'm very interesting in how we'll look once Dobbs is gone. His mobility has saved our Benton's bacon more times than I care to recall, and I don't know how our running game is supposed to work if the quarterback isn't a threat to run the ball.

Actually, after it happens pretty much every game through half the season and becomes part of the team identity, it very much is his fault. Otoh, he also gets credit for the way this team gives great effort, never gives up and has incredible resiliency.

I get your point, but last year we were coming out in the first half of games like world beaters...and at this point in 2015 we were 3-3.

This year we are starting slow, but we're 5-1, and that one was a double overtime loss to the number 8 ranked team in the country.

Some choose to drink their tasty, half empty beverages and blame Butch for the slow starts. Others, like me, prefer to drink our tasty, half full beverages and credit him for the unrelenting drive that this team seems to possess.

And given the choice between last year's MO and the one Team 120 is following...I'll take 5-1 every time.

Had a list of things I wanted to see from jones by year 4. He has slowly crossed of many of the issues I had. he is improving some ways. Turnovers I put on players usually but at the rate we are doing it at some point the coaches have to take on partial accountability. Not getting the team to play 4 qtrs, coaches or player? I am not sure there. Players not focused? Coaches calling more aggressive plays as clock gets shorter?

I just hope this week is the game we put all 4 qtrs with discipline together! I hate Bama!

I'm not saying there aren't improvements from last year to this one, but some things have not improved or have gotten worse.

Take penalties for example, last year through the entire season we had 66 penalties for 530 yards. This year after just 6 games we are looking at 40 penalties for 358 yards. That trend continues and we're going to blow up that stat from last year, and those penalties have been drive killers for us this year.
