How soon we forget. You Negavols are just killing me.

Coming off a 55-0 win, I see threads like "miserable ending unavoidable". GAWD..

Let's review shall we:

  • 2 win streak over GA
  • broke 11 year win streak over FL
  • Bowl eligible 3 years in a row
  • Won handily last two bowl games
  • Likely to be in SEC championship game first time in 9 years (Florida's only offensive td yesterday was meaningless - another loss quite likely)
  • Young talent impressive against Tenn Tech.

Yes, we laid an egg in S.C. All you have to do is watch the Fil-aime fumble (gave them 7 pts) and watch Dobbs get in Hurd's face to understand that there was a dysfunction going on there.

As for being afraid to meet Bama again in the SEC-C game? Get out of here. What do you want? Florida in there. You want McElwain to go on the recruiting trail and say "UF has been to the SEC-C game more than any team in the east and the last two years in a row"?

Bama is crushing everybody, and we set the bar pretty low against them. Whoever goes, it won't be pretty, but WHY NOT THE VOLS?

By the way, we had the hardest schedule of anyone in the east, and more injuries than anyone and STILL may get to Atlanta.

There is much to be happy about.

The glass is half full, no?

It's more than half full

But it tastes a bit funny

Some are pretty sure the glass is cracked and it will all leak out anyway

And it's all moot since we are just going to drown in a glass of water

Cue the Eeoyre gif.

I agree, UT is making progress in the program although the SC loss was a huge setback they are still moving forward and progressing.

Butch may not be perfect, but what coach is perfect?

Fan bases have a short memory.

Sumlin getting heat today.
McElwain getting heat
Notre dame having a meltdown over Kelly
Les Miles - gone
Kirby Smart - getting some rumblings

Then you have Dan Mullen - fans butthurt when he lost to USA, but happy now he beat T-A&M.

Then look at Southern Cal, Texas.. etc.

It could be way worse!

Coaching is everything in CFB

Look at what the Hire of Sabah to Alabama did

The hiring of Harbaugh at UM

The hiring of Pederson at UW

hell even Petrino at UL......All those schools opened the check book with the exception of UL they just took the risk.

If Butch does stay he needs to stop the loyalty bull**** and hire excellent coordinators and let them come in and coach instead of him micromanaging.

Yes we "improved" but let's not forget who we are, Tennessee should be competeing for the SEC title every year and in talks of possibly being in the CFB playoffs. We shouldn't be happy with trips to the Music City Bowl or Idaho potato bowl.

There are 3 types of people:
Optimists - The glass if half full
Pessimists - The glass is half empty
Engineers - The glass is twice as big as it needs to be

Engineers rock!

Well said PT. It may not be as fast as some want but it is getting there. Any time we make it to the SEC title game is a good thing. The loss to USC does suck but put it behind us and keep going forward.

I agree.

But, naw, let's fire Butch and scare the good candidates away even more. Grab another dooley and have some more 5-7 seasons!

Yay!

Patience Grasshopper.. There is (literally) an elephant in the room.

What Saban has built at Alabama is unprecedented in College football history. SEC has 14 teams. Any of them beating Bama? Rome wasn't built in a day.

Georgia looking really stupid right now, which many of us predicted when Richt was dumped.

Word of warning. When you fire a coach that is winning, but the argument is that he is not winning "enough," there are absolutely no guarantees that the replacement will do better--or even as good.

Funny you say that; as an fellow engineer, I've had lots of similar thoughts. That has to be one of the stupidest sayings of all times - not a clue what it means. No info on glass size - whether volume trending up or down - whether the amount in the glass is sufficient for the intended purpose - safety factor - just for starters. But, hey, we're big appearance these days with no relation to what's important, so I guess the appearance of a half full glass would definitely affect a half full mind.

Glass is exactly the right size. It just has a safety factor of 2.

Some of what you say may be correct BUT...

saTan went to alaBubba and there was already LOTS of really good players there because recruiting had been good before he got there..saTan is also 1 of the very best recruiters in the country!

Same exact deal with Harbaugh at Michigan.

BOTH of them had been NFL coaches so it's easier to recruit top kids when they can say...I also know loads of NFL owners, GM's and coaches and I can help you get into the NFL easier and top recruits eat that hype up.

If I remember correctly the ONLY person at Tennessee that has coached in the NFL and knows owners, GM's and coaches in the NFL is DeBord and he's older and probably more boring to these high school kids.

Despite all that buTch has done pretty well in recruiting and rebuilding a total dumpster fire of our roster and program.

As to micromanaging...buTch is the Head footVol coach...It's his JOB to micromanage every single thing about our footVol team, all of it from A to Z.

I have to agree that we may need some coaching changes but we fans have nothing to say and nothing we can really do about those things, NONE!

Seriously, we should be competing for the SEC Championship and a shot at the playoffs EVERY year???

When did Tennessee ever compete for those goals every year?

I would love it if that were to happen but it's NEVER been like that so you're a bit unrealistic on that point my friend...I sure wish that dream would come true though and I don't know 1 coach in the country that could come to Tennessee and make that dream come true.

Instant gratification is the norm for youngsters in this day and age but it's NOT realistic and they'll learn that as they get older and it's NOT realistic in college football when kids come and go every year and the roster is constantly changing.

Neyland stadium used to be a big recruiting tool in the past because we used to be either the biggest or the 2nd biggest stadium in the country, NOT anymore unfortunately.

Many stadiums today seat 100,000 people or close to it and it seems like every time Neyland is remodeled we lose more seats for fans so that recruiting advantage has dropped way down now unfortunately.

I'm VERY proud that we play in the always VERY tough SEC because despite the jealous morons that don't play in the SEC it's just a proven fact that the SEC is the best in the country from top to bottom and probably always will be.

YES, I agree that it's really NOT fair that we play nick saTan and the alaBubba crimson tUrd every year, that really is NOT fair to our Tennessee footVol team.

The UT/Bama rivalry is 1 of the oldest and best in the country bar none and I'd bet that if a poll was done you'd learn that most Vols fans wouldn't change that game for anything, even for 1 more WIN most every season.

1 of the biggest fears by Vols fans when the SEC expanded was that our UT/Bama rivalry would vanish and when it didn't Vols fans were extremely happy about that fear disappearing.

I'm NOT happy with some of the things that have happened this season but we ARE a much better Team thanks to the relentless hard work of buTch and his staff.

Tennessee footVol simply DOES matter now in the SEC and Nationally.

We started every game slow but came back in most games...NOT good to come out slow and lethargic.

Zero excuses for losing to muschUmp again, NONE!

aTm was lost by our players turning the ball over, NOT by our coaches, all these players have been coached and taught since they were 10 years old or younger to NEVER turn the ball over because most times you WILL lose with turnovers.

alaBummer is what they are and nobody has beaten them for 20 straight games or so.

Even nick saTan and his coaches could NOT have done better with the massive number of injuries we've had if they were coaching at Tennessee this year except for maybe the USCe game.

I'm NOT happy about everything but I sure as hell do NOT want to fire buTch right now and go back into another 10 years or more of 5 win seasons.

I'm too old for that and I'd be dead before I could even dream of getting to another SEC Championship game.

Be careful what you ask for, you might get it and regret it later.

Lets go boys, WIN out this season!

VFL...GBO!!!

Team 120 realizes there still plenty to play for so it just has too translate to the field. If LSU does their part we're in the ATL.

It's funny cause we didn't go to then Idaho potato bowl nor the music city bowl...... but I get what your sayin. I think what op's are getting at is that a lot are overlooking the steady annual progress of this program. Some want overnite success and don't wanna wait on it. Also I do believe what success we've had has actually been worse on the fans because it leaves us expecting more sooner and reality is forgotten of what a dumpster fire this program was in a mere 4 years ago. The cupboard is still bare and in need of stocking and that can't be completed with number restrictions each year. I want it as bad as anybody but I also know that it's a lengthy process to build from scratch cause we pretty much was at a bare minimum at talent when this staff took over.
