I thought when Fulmer was here it was bad, and things seemed to get better with the hype that Kiffin brought but things were still pretty divided. Thing is, I think that we are more divided than we were when the 2008 season started. It's very frustrating to see.

I know that we all want to see some progress, but until we get some stability on this staff and within the program, it's not going to happen. That's why I want Dooley here. Even if he fails, we will probably get 4-5 years out of it and be in better shape as a whole than the program we are right now with 3 different HC's in 3 years. Give it time and be patient, because we obviously all saw what some quick self-gratification got us last year.

If Dooley is fired in 3 years, I'm not really sure how it makes us stable. The hire has to be good, period.

Nega-Vols are everywhere, but it's hard not to blame them for being negative when you got Alabama & Florida fans rubbing their recent success in your face constantly..it's hard to remain patient, especially when you had a coach that was willing to break all the rules to get you back to the top over night; leave in the middle of the night and his best players are starting to follow suit.

Tennessee has had the most tortured fanbase of any team over the last five years. Now all everyone seems to worry about is Tennessee being just like Bama was 1996 - 2006.

It all started with fulmer running the program down and then getting millions in "buyout" money for nothing!

I don't think the fan base is nearly as divided as it is just beaten down.

I think alot of people felt 'in the know' by virtue of Kiffin's 'open' approach and frequent talking about, well, anything.

Dooley prefers to keep things off the radar while he works on the task at hand.

Either way works for me, as long as the product in the fall is acceptable.

The key is "PATIENCE"... I want UT football to get back to the top echelon, just as much as anyone else does. For now we just have to play with the cards we are dealt & stop trying to make a flush, when we only have a pair. It is what it is & its going to take some time to rebuild. Its been a hard last couple of years for UT football, but it could have been much worse. Imo for all the coaching changes we had, we come out ok in recruiting. The program will be better off in the long run with Dooley. If we are gonna be a BCS contender, real fans will understand, give CDD his due time & stop being so delusional.

That's because 90% of the people on this board don't know anything but success.

You can tell a lot about people with how they react under adversity. Unfortunately for Tennessee, we have many more poor fans than we care to burden ourselves with. For a few years we blamed it on Fulmer and the tension with all of that. What's happened is already so far out of control and with the internet being as big as it is these days, the morons will be out in fool force.

Not going to disagree with either on of you, but the one's that think more failure is somehow going to bring about future success are delusional. Dooley may fail, but so might the person after him.

Agreed, but we're not breaking new ground with this same old tired thread about "giving the coach time" are we? He may have missed the other eleventythousadrillion threads on this subject but I know damn well you haven't and I haven't. I'll stick with basketball before I start to worry about football. I got all summer for that. Enjoy.

I hate being termed a 'nega vol' just because I don't think Dooley was a good hire and I think it cemented Tennessee officially in the 2nd tier of SEC programs. Dooley may prove me wrong, but I am rather sour on this whole thing right now.

Brown leaving isn't Dooley's fault, I realize. And I did like the hiring of Justin Wilcox. But I just look at this schedule and see 8 losses. That's a way to kill your fanbase, in general.

Yeah this is what I see in a lot of the posts. People wigging because they want something good to start happening. Some are aggresively doubtful but it reads more like frustration/apprehension than true disdain for DD.

Credit past coaches for building the leaky ship, or gouging it as they abandoned it not DD.

I agree. I'm opting out of the jabbing back and forth and will just be a fan on my own I guess. It's really not worth the time or effort. I supported Fulmer, but thought we needed a change. I embraced what Kiffin was doing and was angry that he left. I hope Dooley does great, but am not encouraged in these VERY early stages.

And with that, I opt out.
