The difference in mentality between Jeremy Pruitt and Butch Jones

Idk, don’t kill me for saying this but I don’t think Hurd makes it under Pruitt. I think they’d knock heads faster than CBJ did
if thats the case then Hurd probably never steps foot on campus. To the best of my knowledge everyone CJP recruited still wears orange. Im not sure he recruits anyone who cant be coached hard.

I'm cautiously optimistic, we won 8 games and some of those could have went either way, The first 2 losses could have been eked out W's also so there's that. We barely won our Bowl on an onside kick but that gives hope team never gave up. So we are still a young team in some respects trying to find a dominance swagger. Still think it will come down to QB play and the confidence Chaney has with the game plan and what he has to work with QB & WR wise.

Jones followed Brian Kelly at Central Michigan and then again at Cincinnati if I am not mistaken. He had success at each school but did he achieve this with his recruits or Kelly’s recruits? Just looking at the years it seems he had a bunch of holdovers from Kelly’s success.
When Jones got to UT Kiffin’s recruits were pretty much gone. Dooley’s tenure left very little to work with and Jones could not lean on a REAL SEC ready roster. Jones could recruit but player development was lacking. In my opinion Jones is a fairly decent position coach but not a Head Coach in the toughest Conference in College Football.
Pruitt is in the process of developing into a top tier SEC Coach. He is not flashy nor will he do stupid crap for the Orange and White Game. He knows what it takes to Win from his experience at Bama, Florida State, Georgia and again at Bama. He is building SEC Depth, not a MAC Team. Good Times are ahead and I just hope we can be patient as the Program is once again a team to be reckoned with on the field. JMO.
Good post Kodak

There's no doubt that Jones's best seasons were a mirage based upon Josh Dobb's extraordinary ability to put his team on his back and carry it. I don't think anyone really appreciated how good he was at making something out of nothing. Once those 15 yard scrambles on 3rd and 12 graduated, you could see how poorly coached those teams were.
How True! The worst thing about Dobbs was, he kept boy butch from looking as bad as he was/is.

All that said if BJ had been at the helm last year the whole year would have imploded, JP kept his head down and kept grinding. He will need to do that again this year lot of unknowns at key positions.
Same. The reason I think the bowl game was so close was that the team looked and played extremely tight. They didn't have any real momentum until the last 5 minutes. If the defense improves even a little bit, and the QB situation gets solidified sooner rather than later, they can compete for the SEC East at least.

Im essentially going to agree with Pruitt and say that I am nowhere near satisfied with what he’s been able to do this far. I’m happy to hear that he at least is willing to accept and embrace the pressure of this program instead of spew excuses and irrelevant obscure facts. Because the UT fan base deserves far better than the crap we have been fed for the past 2 decades as a direct consequence of incompetent leadership. It seems like Pruitt has little use or time for BS.

But, IMO talk is talk, whether that be like a used car salesmen or speech invoking of Bear Bryant. Truth is Butch and Pruitt have had very similar records 2 years in. Both have put together nice recruiting classes on paper. I know it’s not apples to apples comparison, and I like Pruitt better than Butch as a person ... but at some point I just have to see the on the field results.

We have been in the outhouse for too long, but I will always believe we should beat USCjr, UK, Missouri and Vandy without Much effort every year, those are historically garbage programs. Those wins should go without saying. Losing 3 in a row to Vandy or the cocks is flat out unacceptable.

I don’t even know who the starting Qb will be next year, there’s a lot to be settled, but Pruitt has got to take advantage of some upcoming opportunities and make the next level leap (something Butch never really did). Next year it is all there for the taking starting with a winnable game in Norman (yeah I said it).

Let’s win some games that matter when the spotlight is on us, and get this perception rolling into reality! Until then, whether it’s Butchisms or Pruittisms we can’t simply speak relevance into existence.
“Butch and Pruitt have had very similar records 2 years in.” Under completely different circumstances.
We’ve got a real hard nosed SEC FB coach now. Unquestioned talent evaluator and recruiter. Real staff of recruiters and talent developers. Proven NC level D coordinator with a fistful of rings to prove it.
Is Pruitt an NC-level HC? 2020 will provide a lot more answers. Losing to Sunbelt State and BYU last year didn’t help.

The big difference for me between the two is in the intangibles. With Butch, it just felt like they found a way to lose the games they should win. He had the talent early, you could see it. But man, they just found ways to lose. Pruitt has that feeling of, man we are going to start getting some talent. And he finds ways to win.

To put it another way, you could absolutely identify the moment when the team quit in the games under Butch. I could just look at the team and say "It's over", whether that was 40 seconds left or 40 minutes. When the breaks went against a Butch team, they were more likely to fold. The Defense would get fed up with the offense going 3 and out and just quit.

Under Pruitt, they keep fighting. He is removing that "It's over" mentality.

Idk, don’t kill me for saying this but I don’t think Hurd makes it under Pruitt. I think they’d knock heads faster than CBJ did

I think if given the same circumstances Pruitt would’ve been smart enough to listen to the player and his family, accessed the situation with the staff, and would have made a decision that would’ve been beneficial for all parties, and not for a second thought about himself. I don’t know if Butch did that, but I’m guessing he was more self involved with handling Hurd than he should’ve been. In a perfect world we’re utilizing Kamara and Kelly out of the backfield and using Hurd in the pass game in one or another. Oh well.

I don't think Jalen and CJP would have clashed or had issues.

CJP by all accounts is upfront with players from various aspects, playing time, position, expectations as a teammate and a student.....
Had Jalen still chosen UT with Pruitt as the HC, that would have been understood from the jump.

That didn't happen under the last coach and Jalen wasn't the only player.

The last coach was worried too much about perception over substance. The perception was he was a great recruiter. Reality is, he sold a bill of goods that he either refused to or couldn't back in more cases than just Jalen and it fell apart about as quick as it come together.

Jones recruiting was inflated by several “legacy” guys who were grossly overrated.

Honest question, and I’m not being an a$$, but why is Butch such an infatuation with Vols fans? He’s gone and UT has moved on. Does UF still whine, complain, and blame everything on Jim McElwain? It’s time to let go.

Florida doesn’t see Big Mac sucking on a cigar every Oct celebrating a win over them either. If they did and were in the position of lack of competitiveness Tennessee is right now, they’d be contracts out on him.

My ex is dating someone rich as he!! and flaunts it in my face. I re-married someone more attractive and that actually makes me happy. I don’t dwell on or concern myself with what she does on a daily basis.
Just saying.

The first question is easy. It wasn't that long ago. So much that he's still drawing a nice check from here. When he left he didn't go back north or even out of the conference. He went to Bama. Mac didn't go to UGA, FSU....

The second question is rather easy as well. First, Mac won his division twice in 3 years. So he wasn't terrible on the same level. Second, they do still talk about his failings and for now Mullen's accomplishments are compared to him being the guy that replaced him. That will eventually change if Mullen takes the next step or 2 up. If he doesn't, instead of being compared to Spurrier or Meyer, Mac's name will come up more often.

Jones sucked. Does everyone know it? Probably everyone but him. Is that ever going to change? No. Does that mean everyone will stop talking about his time here? No. For the opposite reason everyone still talks about Neyland and most here never watched a game he coached.

Fans remember greatness. They also remember dumpster fires as well.

Just saying.

"Happier" is gauged by your previous experiences. The most recent one being the easiest to remember and compare.

Did your ex get the house and the dog?

I think the wildcard here in the 10 win vs 8 win season is the impact of those 2 loses. The adversity seems to be the key to turning this team around. Honestly the Ky, Missouri, and Indy games were too close ... and who is to say without the gut check start of the season the team would have won more than 8 games regardless. I’m happy with the ?4th? longest winning streak in the nation and will gladly carry that into a new season.
