This article is good validation of what we already knew. Being a good college coach and being a good NFL coach are two entirely different sets of skills. How good of a coach you are isn't even close to what makes the difference. Having to operate and actual business versus run a hype train are two completely different things and Urban is now learning this.

This is also why I never want UT to hire a "successful NFL coach". I say nuts to that. Tell me why I should think he'd be a good college coach because its not about your football knowledge, its about your ability to run a completely different type of organization.

Of course not. Half the battle, probably more, of winning is the quality of player talent with which to work. Meyer and Saban were/are two of the best recruiters. Being able to stack the deck makes life much easier.

Motivating a young man at college surrounded by a protective atmosphere of the college experience, dorms, and providing even his/her meals for those on scholly to perform is one thing. Motivating a young man to regiment his diet, his lifestyle, his behavior, and performing at his peak ability that has millions in a bank account with a supermodel girlfriend who likes threesomes is another thing altogether. Saban has that first thing down to a fine science. He failed miserably with that second group of guys.

Mainly because he had a crappy QB in Miami...........and had a salary cap in the NFL.
