The difference between Tennessee and other states

I just can't imagine being born and raised in Tennessee and cheering for anyone but UT. I don't get it at all.

I agree fully. I actually started a thread on this sorta thing, so most of it might be bandwagon....I hate those kinda guys....

Anyway, I have my fair share of this kinda thing Oliver Springs. I see Gators and Bammers everywhere. But when I look at it, the License plates simply destroy the competition there. :good!:

I go to school in North Alabama and you'd be hard pressed to find any Tennessee fans...although I do live down the hall from Tyler Smith's cousin. To prove it to me, he has Tyler's PS3.

Why is it that when you go to Alabama or Florida or Georgia, every other car you see has a sticker of license plate of something of their state team. You go into a restaurant in Alabama and everyone is wearing crimson. In Tennessee, you're hard pressed to find another UT fan. There are more Alabama fans in Nashville than Tennessee fans. We live in a neighborhood of 400 houses and there is only one other family in the neighborhood that are Tennessee fans. The rest are Alabama, Florida and LSU fans.

It's just very annoying.

Hopefully you will be able to get a job where you can move to a nicer neighborhood. :)

It could be the fact that the state of Tennessee is just a much better place to live. You don't see UT fans in Bama because it's an awful place; we know better. At least gators and such are smart enough to know how much better out state is

in the midstate area is because the state of Alabama is totally backwards and if you get some kind of an education and want a good job you either have to move to Nashville or Atlanta. The educated see Nashville and Atlanta as sophisticated areas with better opportunities and safer environments for their families, as compared to Birmingham, Montgomery, and Mobile. The good thing about that is that their children will be raised in a better environment and see the Big Orange Light someday.

In other words, Sweet Home Alabama is not what it is cracked up to be or there would not be so many people leaving there.

Your right there are a lot of "half backs" these days in Tennessee. People who moved from the North to Florida and then went "half back. Maybe the demographics have changed since I was a kid 20-25 years ago. Anyway, I still don't get why kids growing up in Tennessee would cheer for anyone but UT. Grrrrrrrrr

I live in middle TN when I'm not in Knoxville and see plenty of UT fans. There are some LSU fans because they moved up here after the hurricanes. I've heard Georgia fans say the same thing about their fan base and how all you see in the northern part of GA are TN fans.

Bammers are a lot like Mexicans. They still have pride in their homeland but know it's a dump and don't want to live there. That is why all the bammers move to Tennessee.

I live in Chattanooga, and I see a lot of Volunteer Pride very often. I saw a lot of people jump on the Georgia bandwagon last fall but it's hardly seen now.

Good topic...
I think middle TN has become a melting pot with people moving in. I am the only vol fan in my circle of close friends, but none of those guys were born here. They all moved in from other states when they were younger. They are mostly Kentucky fans and that is why my hate for Kentucky has grown so much.

I don't know if was mentioned but what this state has that is unique is that you have 8 states (im including Missouri. some don't) that border Tennessee and the location of the state is central to most of the eastern half of the US, so it isnt isolated as is the case with other states and it should be expected that there would be alot of "border jumpers" that are fans of other college teams when even though they might be in Tennessee they are closer to the scene of another program. Growing up in Chattanooga you were less then a hour drive away from three other states.

Chattanoogans are pretty fickle. and we get people from GA and ALA up in town a lot. I sold 2 UGA car flags to a guy and after the mighty black out game he comes back in and buys bama flags. I had try really hard not to say something to him.

10 to 1 he lost a bet.

I was in the military and have done overseas contracting. I've been all over the world, and the one thing I notice was no matter where I went there would be Vol fan there other than me.

It's terrible in West Tennessee. Even when the Vols were good Memphians really never cared about the Vols. The town was mostly Tiger High and Rebels fans.
You are right about Memphis, But wrong about the rest of west Tennessee, I live in west Tenn, And it is 90+% vols! We think it is communism to live in Tenn. and not be a VOL fan! GO VOLS!

Here in the St. Louis Metro area, The Vols are well represented. Other than Mizzou, I think there are more cars/people with UT stuff than any other school (and I don't think that it is just because I notice the ORANGE more). I live in a town of about 35000 that is in the western suburbs and I see UT people all over. The only other SEC school that I see a decent amount is Auburn.????

I work with two vendors in St. Louis and one is a huge UT fan, and the other one's husband is a Tennessee fan.

My best friend growing up in east Tennessee, she and her husband both are UT Alum. They have two children attending Webb and one is going to Bama and the other to Auburn how could parents let this happen? I told my children if they ever became Gator fans they would need to find another place to live....Lol They go to all the Tennessee games but like these other schools better. The daughter just got back from a visit at Bama and the Mom said that the campus is much better than Tennessee. Does anyone have an opinion on this? I have never been to the campus of Alabama so I couldn't comment...

You'll also find a surprising number of UT fans in the surrounding states.
