The premise that Conservatives are heartless is a stupid hill to die on.. Conservatives give to charities at twice the rate that Liberals do.. I don’t mind giving to the United Way, Red Cross, my church, non profits, etc as that is their lane and what they should do, and most of all, it is voluntary and not done through taxation aka theft..

Seems like if the recipients were truly sincere about their desire to help those that showed up on their doorstep, they wouldn’t make a spectacle of the situation. They would provide aid quietly.

So one can only conclude their true desire is to use the people they are helping as political pawns in the game. The same thing they are accusing the GOP governor’s of doing.

We form societies for the uniform protections and commerce that sustain us. That has a cost. I'm going to disagree somewhat, as a reformed libertarian to a constitutionalist, in that I'm not sure independent charity alone would address problems we can all see. The argument is dependent upon the proposition that less taxation would result in more charity; probably, but enough? That is an uncertainty.

We elect to remain in this societal construct (even the anarcho types) having a cost, and a nation - with fiscal discipline - has a role to play. We simply don't have fiscal discipline. I'd rather we address that and better help people, and have lower taxation. If the Fed sucked less out of the states, states could play a larger role in that.

You're a decent person doing your part, conservatives are generous in deed and dollar, thus the upvote.
