The DeSantis containment thread -- all things DeSantis go here

Bull. For one, the Feds have virtually total and complete control over immigration. Believe there was brouhaha about this a few years ago when Texas threatened to do it themselves, maybe back during Obama years.
Even if he can't police it it doesn't mean he wants it closed.

A former Republican secretary of State in Texas did a deep dive study and said there was roughly half a billion net benefit to the Texas government and much more to the US government.

Nobody wants to give up that revenue. Why did Carter, Regan, Bush, Clinton, Bush, Obama all turn a blind eye to it? Follow the money.... $7 billion per year just to the social security administration.

You can't make me believe we couldn't effectively lock it down in a matter of months if we wanted to. An we don't need some enormous wall to do so. We put a man on the moon with less computing power than a smartphone.

Lasers, satellites, ground sensors, electric fences...nobody wants to cut off the cash cow.

Martha's Vineyard, Voting 84% for Biden, Gets Illegal Aliens Deported to Military Base
Democrat officials on Martha’s Vineyard immediately declared a “humanitarian crisis” even as the 50 illegal alien arrivals are a drop in the ocean compared to the nearly 6,000 border crossers and illegal aliens that American border towns are subjected to every day.

In response, Baker bused the illegal aliens off Martha’s Vineyard to Joint Base Cape Cod following Democrats’ outcry that DeSantis’ flying illegal aliens to the elite island was “evil and inhumane” even as President Joe Biden buses and flies thousands of illegal aliens every day to working and middle class communities.

Residents on the island voted up to 88 percent for Biden in the 2020 presidential election.

This is how Democrats treat hard-working immigrants just looking for a better life.

It's simple, neither Rs nor Ds want to fix our immigration problem because of votes. It's no more complicated than that, it's a political football that can be kicked around by both sides to rile up support.

Other studies have found the exact opposite, that when you factor in all costs, it's a net loss. I just posted one earlier today from TX AG Paxton showing a minimum cost to TX citizens of $855M annually.

But let's say there is $7B a year to social security; what's the long view? We're propping up a pyramid created at a time when there were 150 payees for every beneficiary. Today, there are 2-3 payees for every beneficiary, a beneficiary who draws a multiple of what they paid in. We can't outrun that population equation and be damned why anyone would want to try.

Population schemes - domestic or/and imported - will compound, not fix our fiscal woes.

So here's a free idea, anyone that hires anyone without a background check and is found to have illegals working for them is subject to 18 months in prison. Boom, problem solved.

Also, I thought this study done by a Texan that held a Republican political office was pretty interesting

Nice to see the great State of Massachusetts and their patriotic citizens step up to the plate and treat these asylum seekers looking for a better life with the respect and dignity they deserve. Finding them adequate housing, legal help, and medical care is real leadership and a testament to their true American values. Maybe next time, DeSantis will display some leadership and common decency by giving them some advance notice.

Probably work as well as my idea of penalizing 10% of annual gross revenues for first offense, then doubling thereafter.

I think Congress allows the "we need immigrants to pay for entitlements" meme to flourish to avoid fiscal responsibility.

This is true. It is why Republicans kill all their children as soon as practical if the kids make it past the abortion attempts.

Good Lord, the stupid statements made by some people are truly amazing.

They cheered when Trump separated them from their parents. They support restrictions on same sex couples adopting, leaving them in overburdened foster systems. They support medieval restrictions on marijuana legalization which would free up money and allow non violent offenders to be home with their children. Want me to keep going or you just want to keep calling names?

I 100% agree and kudos to the great people of MA. TX needs to send more up there so they can receive the treatment they deserve.

This would fundamentally impact Republicans much more. Dems use immigrants for votes, Republicans, which is likely to be the demographics of business owners use them for allegedly cheap labor. I say allegedly because all of the guys who worked in a kitchen with me were making 15-17 an hour in 2008.

It's unfortunate that Abbott and DeSantis are unable to manage their States properly so they have to rely on other States to bail them out and do their jobs for them.

Too bad there isn't a higher entity that's responsible for controlling immigration and our borders so that incompetents like Abbott and DeSantis didn't have to send illegal aliens to well run states like NY and MA.

It's simple. Democrats mayors and governors said the places they governed were sanctuary cities and states. You should be holding them responsible and making sure they stay true to their word.

You've moved the goal posts. Your original statement was that if Abbott want to stop the illegal border crossings he could. That is patently false.

With regards to the rest of this, while not sure whether some of your claims are true or not, I think this administration is much like the government's approach to the drug business. The last thing they wants to do is to stop it. And for that matter, I'm not sure the Republicans do either because it eliminates a freaking talking point for them.
