So I'm not hopping on the fire derrick dooley train yet but i couldn't help but find myself questioning why he was hired. For some peculiar reason, I guess I just never questioned Mike Hamilton's reasoning. I know Dooley was a good assistant with NFL experience as a TE coach, but he was nothing but a below .500 ball coach at Louisiana Tech where his best season he went 8-5 and won the independence bowl. I know the man has spectacular character, but why was he hired. Was it the right hire or was it simply desperate?

This and nothing more. The good news is that with the hiring of a new president, it's one step closer to getting Hamilton the hell out of the AD job. Hopefully a new AD would be able to get a qualified coach to come in and right the ship in football.

Dude, Derek Dooley was the only football coach who had the balls to take the Tennessee job. He took over as the coach of a grease fire. People need to give the guy a chance. I honestly believe he will be successsful given time.

Yeah, it really takes balls to take a fivefold raise to do your same job somewhere else.

Thank you DD took the job when nobody else wanted it and played true fr. when he knew they would play okay at best you have to give the man a couple of years before you can condeem him as the worst coach ever

I cannot be mad at the coaches.. between players leaving , injurys, ect.. This schedule has been the toughest I can remember. I think they are doing the best they can.. they can't help that they suck. ( excluding Nick Reveiz man that kid is a true VOL , I watched how he was so determined on every play.

So do you think the man can coach us to 10 win seasons and into the SEC race or is he simply just a stepping stone in the UT football program until we get another coach?

i look at him as doing a good job with what he has and you really can't blame him for this year when he brought in what he did

Chizik really lit it up before going to Auburn and his record was worse than DD. He seems to be doing ok once he got a team with talent. DD hasn't had that opportunity yet.

I would say it certainly does given the expectations of the university and our fanbase. He and every other coach contacted saw the roster and everyone else passed on the opportunity thinking it could possibly be career suicide. I hope this clarifies things for you bro.:eek:k:

I'm behind Dooley, That team is the defending national chumps... up until the South Carolina loss everyone thought they would steam roll everyone.. They have a heisman trophy running back and the second string rb is better than him.. We were over matched on every phase of the game.. Its unfortunate we could not muster a better half. We just need to recruit and get ready for next years BAMA game...

Probably a stepping stone but not a bad one....The man seems sincere and honest and that is all we can hope for at this time.I don't mind giving DD a chance to stabilize the program because that's what it needs.Expecting anything more from the man at this time is just wasted energy...

You may want to learn his name.

Who curses more in a professional setting, he or Saban?

I think that is the only thing about him I strongly dislike. It is unnecessary and classless.

Gus Malzahn is the one that should be getting the credit.
