The Defense

I predict that since the offense has played well in some games and the defense has played well in some games we will go ahead and retain our entire staff.

I salute the D!!! They showed up and played really really well... 13 points with so much time of possession for LSU... that was truely amazing.... I feel bad that the O did not show up...

P.S. - Eric berry is too good to be true!!! he is all over the field... most of the times...

If we can develop another DT and end next year, our defense can be special. Bolten and Williams are studs as will be our LB's and secondary.

Hats off to the D. They PUNISHED LSU and played a magnificent game.

Hats off also to all of the players for being well disciplined: 0 penalties.

They played well enough to win, but Ainge just wouldn't let them. Ah well. I'll admit we were pretty lucky to be there in the first place.

There is a faint ray of hope for next season. We did have some guys grow up on D this season.

The downside, we will have the same herd of idiots pulling the reins.

Just for once I wish 2 and 2 go together when it matters most

We gave up 464 yards...and prior to their [second string] QB slicing his finger and best WR going down we had trouble stopping them untilt the red zone.

Better than FL, yes. Good? No.

By the way, Berry looks like a natural back there, but he did not play a perfect game. Not to mention he blew he coverage on their 1st half TD pass.

Yes, Liper.....but when you look at some of the other performances the defense has had this season, tonight was practically magnificent. That's probably why it's getting over-blown so much. They do deserve some praise though....they played hard.

Defense was not to blame for anything today. They have improved still giving up way to much yardage. But a real solid effort today. It sucks to have it that close and let it get away.

464 yard yes, but they didn't get many scores out of those yards. All in all I agree though, it's to hard to label that a great performance.

The Vols had more than one chance to win that game and just didn't get it done.

OK, let me rephrase. Considering that we have the 11th best defense in a 12 team league, we played pretty good in that we kept them out of the end zone for the most part. Other than that, by an objective standard of measuring good and bad, I don't think it was all that good.

But yes, it was better than many games we've played.

It was good enough to win. If only eric hadn't went brain dead at the end. I have a tip for phil don't recruit us another qb from the left coast. Their track record hasn't been good for us.

before the kentucky game, i would have voted to ride chavis and his assistants out of knoxville on a rail. that game gave me second thoughts, and damned if i'm not proud of them tonight. sure, they gave up some big plays, but they made some as well. remember, LSU only scored 14 on them. of all the bad things that could be deservedly said of them this year, losing this game is not one of them. chavis and staff, i salute you!

Eric Berry had a nice interception, but they had a lot of help. LSU using their 2nd string QB, then he got a thigh bruise and was not able to run the option that was killing UT. Then later cutting his finger where he couldn't pass.

Their's really no excuse for losing this game. The defense held them to 14 pts and Ainge game them 7 pts for the win. Ainge and Foster both had bad games. No running game to grind it out in the 4th quarter.
