I wanted to see statistically what Shoop's defense looks like.

Georgia Tech game:
First downs- 33
Rushing yards- 535
Passing yards- 120
Total Yards given up- 655
Total plays by GT- 96
3rd downs- 13-18 (only five times they didn't convert on 3rd down)
Turnovers forced- 2

They averaged getting 6.82 yards every time they snapped the ball.:banghead2:

Indiana State game:
First downs- 13
Rushing yards- 122
Passing yards- 93
Total yards given up- 215
Total plays by IS- 57
3rd downs- 0-11
Turnovers forced- 0

IS averaged 3.77 yards every time they snapped the ball.

Florida game:
First downs- 14
Rushing yards- 168
Passing yards- 212
Total yards given up- 380
Total plays by Florida- 57
3rd downs- 7-14
Turnovers forced- 3

Florida averaged getting 6.6 yards every time they snapped the ball.

UMASS game:
First downs- 14
Rushing yards- 144
Passing yards- 137
Total yards given up- 281
Total plays by UMASS- 59
3rd downs- 3-14
Turnovers forced- 0

Umass averaged getting 4.7 yards every time they snapped the ball.

Through 4 games we have given up:
Yards- 1,531
Defense has played 269 snaps.
We are averaging giving up 5.7 yards every time an offense snaps the ball against us.

aren't we like plus 1 turnovers still?

I think the Florida game is the most true representation of what our Defense really is. I would throw out the GT game as an outlier tbh.

I was going to put the stats without it as well, but I felt it appropriate because our stats look better from the first game to the 4th one. :eek:lol:

We're going to get ran on no question about it. I just hope we can limit and rattle Fromm. Their offense is dynamic, that tight end they have is such a beast. We'll see on Saturday.

Need the offense to stay on the field with sustained drives, and our defense create turnovers. IF we do that we will be ok.

3-1 and a blown coverage or a false start penalty away from 4-0.

Goes both ways...we were a FG away from 2-2...if GTech had even a substandard D1 kicker, we would've lost that game. Or if the QB executed the option properly on that last play, we'd be looking at 2-2...

Seems like a bend don't break mentality and even with the few busted plays, I think our D can keep us in games. Just need to WR's to catch the ball more consistently.

Nauta is a bad mofo. They've got some serious mismatch opportunities versus us. Could be an ugly game, especially if Nauta catches fire...we already know they're going to have no problems running the football.

The Florida game is representative of our defense?? You know that they have one of the worst offenses in the SEC, right? They rank 112 out of 129 in total offense. So how in any way does that make that game a "true representation"

Georgia Tech is 26th, btw

Not to mention the QB in that game has played 3 games, was benched twice, and already lost his job.

The game that didn't require him to be benched....Tennessee

IMO the best shot we have on D is to crowd the LOS and make their QB beat us. I do not expect us to shut their run game down (because everyone gashes our rush D) completely but hopefully we can keep it somewhat respectable. Tall order in all honesty.

Jumper on Nauta is not a good match up for us

We really havent played a good team yet. That starts this Saturday. If our defense can do a good job against Georgia, then I will be a little impressed.

If GT has a half competent kicker and UMass hadn't lost their starting QB, we would likely be 1-3 right now with our only win over an FCS team that we gave up 150 yards rushing to.

But continue fluffing up how good this team is.

This, GA is our first real complete team test as they're currently #4 in total D and rushing O. The latter has been an ongoing area of concern since the season began. Their passing O is efficient in that it's not high on yardage (only 166ypg) but #2 in rating and #3 in Y/A.

We'll be learning a lot on Sat. I hope it's a happier lesson than many (most?) of us are expecting.

It sure would be nice to see the dline win some battles at the line of scrimmage and quiet the fans who say we're overrated there. People can say we're overrated in some facets of our game, but I was really hoping dline would not be one of them. The lights need to come on for Kongbo, we need him to really contain the perimeter. Nauta is going to be tough as nails. Let's hope the coverage and containment is good enough not to have to guess too often on 2nd and 3rd down or it's going to be killer. It may be anyway.

Man this is on point. I was excited about the D line this year despite losses to the league and graduation. Same for the O line really.

IMO this has been the most disappointing thing all around. And although we can argue coaching this or that, something tells me we just got a little taste of overrated with some of these guys.

Dont know about you but despite Kongbo being an all around beast - at times he looks uncoordinated.

Will Shoop's sheep, step up against Georgia or be sheared to the skin on Shields Watkins field?
I sure miss Leonard's losers, don't you?

Fromm will get heisman talk after throwing towards Martin all day imo.
