Deciding which is worse: incompetent parents or grade grubbing parents…
It’s parent/teacher conference day… my favorite 🙄🙄🙄

I would go to my kids' teacher conferences just to let the teachers know I cared and to give them my number in case the kids started causing problems. So I was visiting with my daughter's English teacher and made a few comments about how important I thought writing skills were, how important I thought English teachers were and so on.

The next day, my girl relates that the teacher pulled her aside and told her how nice it was to be appreciated by a parent.

My daughter said the thought running through her mind during this discussion was "Oh Lord! Daddy done blown smoke up another one's azz!".

As it turned out, the teacher worked my daughter to death on papers and such and then she got a hold of my son two years later and gave him the same treatment.

The thing is; through undergraduate, masters and med school, my kids never had any trouble writing. They would comment from time to time about how much better prepared they were than some of their fellow students.

Lose your shizz if you need to but keep teaching them up. It does make a difference.

Good for you. Positive interactions with parents make a huge difference. Whenever I get a nice note from a student or a parent, I file it away to read on bad days.

Really what you say is a huge compliment to an English teacher. When those students tell you how well-prepared they were at the next level(s), it makes it all worthwhile.
