I believe when it's time for the coach to get soaked with Gatorade, Saban delegates that to Butch.Butch was a thin-skinned used car salesman and was a total control freak with players and asst. coaches. Not a good combination. He made promises to recruits he could not keep and caused a lot team turmoil. There is a reason he has not been hired as a HC since he was fired. But he apparently washes cars very well.
I'm in no way comparing their abilities to recruit but I'm just saying Butch had some guys, even as freshmen I was excited about. They were playing clean ball and things were looking good after year 2. Despite all the good things I could say about Pruitt, let's not forget Pruitt losing to GSU. There has been some inexcusable games and clock management. All I'm getting at is I'm less interested in the recruiting right now because it's not like Butch failed in that area and left the cupboard bare, and even tho it was really all Dobbs, Butch did win 9 games. It's year 3, an experienced team with depth and hes no longer a new coach. If hes going to be a good coach that lasts for UT, I'm ready to see Ws.I am surely no expert in evaluating talent but there are major differences between Butch's recruiting and Pruitt's that you can see with your own eyes.
First there is actually meat on the table - look at the weight differences for our OL and DL compared to Butch teams, much less Bubbas and tell me there isnt a difference of hundreds of pounds
Second - speed, greasy fast speed. I know Butch aimed for this too since his schemes such as they were focused on finesse but Pruitt is getting crazy fast players in the positions that count (and even overall).
So of course, raw talent is wasted if you cant coach them up but I dont think anyone has doubts about Chaney's coaching (or Pruitt's line coaching for that matter) - so I think we should be fairly solid at least. Elite? that we will only know in time once/if it proves on the field.
My God, it was Indiana.
He wasn't their preferred starter. Penix won the job but got injured. He likely left because Penix was going to take over again and Ramsey felt he was good enough to start somewhere.1. Indiana’s QB was a pretty solid player, they were lucky to have him. Notice I said “were”... a little-known fact: we broke their hearts so bad their QB Peyton Ramsey now plays for Northwestern. Seriously, look it up, he left the team shortly after the bowl game .... sorry about that Hoosiers....
The orange goggled sunshine pumpers will NEVER admit that we were very lucky to beat IndianaThis all day. That we are even talking about a mid-tier, comeback bowl win over Indiana is proof positive how far this program had sunk the last few years. And we all know that Indiana outplayed us in that game and should have won. Nowhere for this program to go but up. Hopefully, that was the beginning of The Orange Sunrise...let it shine tomorrow night.
It may not have been totally bare, but it was close. You don't win in the SEC with an undersized OL regardless of how 'quick'....Jones lack of development of the talent he did get was atrocious...not winning a single conference game ? The trend is up and we are nowhere near the depths Jones left the program inI'm in no way comparing their abilities to recruit but I'm just saying Butch had some guys, even as freshmen I was excited about.
