The Dallas Cowboys football circus thread

That's a crapload of money. 47 mil per year. More than some qbs. Lol. I hate to see him go, but if that's what it would take I'm not completely mad they traded him. Not sure a couple of picks in the 20s is worth it though.

It should be more than 2 picks. I heard it's at least that, but IDK what that means.

I thought if the Pickens thing worked, they'd be contenders. Now they're most likely not even close. But I also believe that a mini-rebuild might've been the best thing for them, with this stupid Dak contract.

Dallas gets a DT also. Kenny Clark. I'd rather not trade him to the Packers though. Surely some AFC team could have made some offers.

Original "agreement" was still a ways off. A little over 40 mil per year vs the 47 he's getting from GB.

As a diehard Cowboys fan for over 50+ years, I don't mind this trade. Micah wasnt going to play this year and Cowboys can rebuild the defense over the next season or so with draft picks...

Dallas has been really good with their 1st rd picks, so even if they're in the 20s, they'll probably find 2 starters.

The Dak contract was a gigantic unforced error that sealed the Cowboys fate for years to come.

Here's my hot take. Micah is definitely an elite pass rusher, no questions asked. But he seems to be always banged up and been a no show in the playoffs. He is pretty much terrible against the run because he's so aggressive rushing the QB, and good teams take advantage of that, especially in the playoffs, and have a field day rushing the ball. This isn't catastrophic to the franchise like some people are saying. In 4 career playoff games he has 1 sack, and that came again Tampa Bay in the last 3 minutes of the game.

Fwiw, jmo

Micah's price was as big as Jerry's ego. Jerry "won". Micah may or may not thrive in GB. And as long as they can draft well since they will have 4 1st rounders over the next 2 years, they should build a solid young core. They probably should have gotten another pick also, but whatever. Two years from now they should have drafted Dak's successor and will be looking to send him off into neverland. I have hope, but not much.

I doubt anyone would have thought this is what it would take to sign Micah. If you asked anyone a few months ago would you sign Micah at this contract, I think most would say no, trade him. Just for reference here are the contracts for the highest paid Edge and LBs. Micah's dwarfs them. 47 mill per year APY. 188 million over 4 years. 136 million guaranteed.

Micah Parsons: First NFL player with 12 sacks in their first four seasons since…

Reggie White 👀

Personally, i think Jerry trying to negotiate a deal directly with Micah created the problem. No way Moblongata was going to allow a sweet heart deal and he immediately proved Micah’s value. Highest bidder.

He does get a little banged up but he's missed 4 games in 4 years. Of all the elite edge rushers in the NFL, he is most versatile defender.

I can't remember the stats, but his win% compared to other edges is ridiculous. He has 52.5 sacks in 4 years, and he's dropping into coverage way more than any other edge. He can run sideline to sideline like an MLB.

SFO in 2021, 9 tackles + TFL
TAM and SFO in 2022, just 7 tackles but 2 TFL's, 3 QB hits, and 3 PD's.
GNB in 2023 - 3 tackles, 1 QB hit

And that's with every one of those offenses game-planning for him and him only. What is the Cowboys D doing without him getting double-teamed?

It's OK to think they'll be fine without him, but let's not pretend he isn't absolutely one of the top 5 game-wreckers in the league.

Jerry messed this up so bad. Parsons is a kid and players have agents for a reason. Jerry has been doing this for 30 years and it's not a fair negotiation. I don't blame him for trying to get that deal, but he's an idiot, and basically a cheat, for trying to hold Parsons to that.

I have no loyalty to the Cowboys or Packers but I think some of the negative reaction by the sports media is because it involves the Cowboys and Jerry Jones and makes for good ratings for their radio and TV shows. I think many of the so called experts are undervaluing what Dallas got in return. Yes I think the Packers should get great reviews for getting a player like Parsons but the Cowboys got a whole lot in return IMO. In addition to the 2 first round draft picks, the DT isn't just a throw in player. He made 3 pro bowls and fills one of the Cowboys weaknesses. I guess time will tell.
I'm also a bit surprised that the Packers jumped the Lions as betting favorites in their division. Seems like a classic spur of the moment overreaction. I'd still bet on the Lions winning that division as long as they have Josh Allen.

There's some truth to this. I think a lot of the sports media just want to hammer Jerry. Some of it is justified. Some of it is just trolling.

Go back to last year and Parson was viewed as one of the best defensive players, but not the best. "He's not a Myles Garret. He's not TJ Watt." That was the talk during and after the season. And not to forget the constant complaints about his podcast immediately after the games. "He's distracted and not focused"

Some of what I've heard on tv, radio, and read on the internet in the past 16 hours I think borders trolling. "Worst trade in the history of the NFL." "Jerry just gave away the next Lawrence Taylor." "Parsons is the absolute best defensive players in the NFL". Ect, ect, ect.

Jerry mishandled it. But if that's the contract it took to sign Parsons then it never would have happened regardless.
