The Culinary Arts Thread

First off, lol. My glasses lied.

Secondly. Duh. I know that's the app. I'm dumb but not that dumb.

on my current iteration of this watch, I don't see the maps on my watch. That's what I was getting at. The new ones show the maps. I'm possibly going to look into upgrading around the end of the year.

I just didn't know if you were using one of the apps on your phone like Slice and others were using or if you were still using your watch.

I was thinking about going to Garmin, but several reasons I decided against it. I really like the Epix Generation 2 but I'm not ready to pay that much and it's bigger than I think I'd like.

I'm gonna pre order the Galaxy 5 pro as soon as it's available. I know they fixed 1 of the only 2 issues I have with the 4 and I can't image they didn't improve the other, which is the GPS accuracy.

Blah blah blah.

I love the GPS accuracy of my Garmin. I don't remember what your other issue was that you say is fixed. It also connects to its own app, Strava, my Apple Health app, and the UA running app. Probably more. And the battery is still really really good all these years later. I mean it's definitely not as good as it used to be, but I can go over a whole week using the GPS minimum 5 times a week and still have around 40%

The problem they fixed was the battery. They've almost doubled the size and that will be just fine.

The GPS is off .24 -.26 per mile. Every Mile every time. I've learned to compensate so it's not a huge deal, but it's annoying because I want it to be accurate and it obviously screws up my mph reading. Pisses me off. Lol.

I've never ran a long event that finished where it was supposed to (ie a half marathon, I normally run 13.5 or so instead of 13.1). But I'll map out my run on a map for 5 miles. My Garmin is always almost spot on. Thursday we had an ACFT (the new Army PT Test) and my two mile run finished at 2.02 miles. Fwiw, I ran the curve on the way out on the far outside. I'd wager that's where the .02 came from.

My Fitbit lets me choose between using the built-in GPS or using the one on my phone.

The maps generated by the phone GPS imply that I’m wandering through back yards, maybe climbing over roofs. I’ve no idea what it’s doing, other than it’s definitely not reliable. (The Fitbit GPS is fine.)

I thought this evening 3/4 mile after-dinner stroll was pretty special, considering that I never left sidewalks except to cross streets, and I ended up where I began, except on the map:

Yesterday I walked a measured mile in the morning. It showed .76. (-.24) Last night I walked 2 miles and it showed 1.52. (-.48).

Yeah, It would be a major issue if that was more important than all the other stuff I actually enjoy most about this watch. Does you watch fax? Lol.

Seriously, they know it's a problem so I'm hoping they've corrected it.
Yea. I mean it’s literally the number one thing I want in a watch like this. Training runs are done by, well, specific mileage…

But Garmin sure can’t fax. So there’s that

Yikes. I couldn’t handle that.
Not sure why I never researched this issue until last night. After reading yours and Lima's posts I did and I have a couple of things to try later today that might solve this problem. 🤔

I have no issue with my map, it uses Google earth and is accurate.

Actually, everything I pay attention to is either accurate or seems accurate. I use "seems" because I have no clue if "skeletal muscle" is or not and I don't care enough to figure it out.

I bought an oximeter that my doctor suggested just to compare the readings with my watch and they always match perfectly or off by 1 on the blood oxygen and perfect on bpm.

I use an excel spreadsheet to record all of my walks. I started this with my first step counter just to check its accuracy. I just continue because It's part of my daily routine now and the steps on my walks couldn't be more accurate. It's a litte less accurate doing stuff around the house but what's 200-300 steps off on 15,000?

Well, my brother sent me a video of his response to his friends neighbors after they called the police on them for fireworks. It involved a flamethrower and a couple of F-Bombs.

Tin Cup would like him. Lol.
