Oh contraire. Used to eat some great ones at the local catfish restaurants. Sadly, they all seemed to have disappeared from east Tennessee. Used to go to Oliver Springs for catfish, hush puppies and live music when I was a teenager. Gone.

Sadly you are correct. We have a good place here in W KY but only a couple. Athens, AL has a good place called Catfish Cabin.

I swear we have tried hush puppies from about 15 different locations around here before today and all were the same store bought from the freezer section nasty little bastages I described in my prior post. So, everytime I see a spherical hush puppy, my internal pavlovian dog takes over.

It is indeed hard to find a good hushpuppy these days. Luckily I have a place that makes them homemade all day long about 5 minutes from my house. They are sort of spherical. They just throw a big glob of the batter mix into the fryer and whatever shape they come out in is what shape you eat em in. Best I have found around CLT.
