The Crow Thread

No crow to eat here. I questioned whether or not Butch would let Dormady finish the game, but kept hoping he'd get it together and he did. Never said to pull him. But if you're wanting posters/fans to eat crow for their criticism of Butch, you're crazy. Horrible with game clock management, time out usage, etc. This team was ill prepared and it showed. By some miracle our players willed themselves to victory. Our defense is still porous as a spaghetti strainer. Shoop has been a terrible hire. It's not even up for debate. He took $1 Million to come here and it's outright theft! Our O line isn't very good for the ? year in a row. An undersized Tech defensive line was eating them up for over half the game. I thought this game was a toss up...and it was. But to demand people eat crow because they have legitimate concerns and objections over some of the things that are going on with this program is absurd.

So when we blow a lead it's on Butch, and when we stage a comeback win it's solely on the players? Got it.

You're d***ed right. A well coached team would not have ever gotten to double OT. Look man. I've been a Butch supporter until tonight. I'm not a negavol. He may prove me wrong this season but I'll be very surprised if he does. We need an elite coach. Not a project. This is Rocky Top.

You can't see how pathetic the game was managed by the coaches? Especially the clock management and the defensive play-calling?

Did the coaches make mistakes? Sure, but to say they played no role in the comeback is stupid. Plain and simple.

They also played a role in getting us in the 2OT situation in the first place. I'm just tired of making excuses and I'm not doing it anymore. I hope more than anything Butch proves himself this season, but this game didn't show it and I'm very skeptical. If he proves me wrong, great! If not, he needs to go.

Jones mismanaged the game so bad that it reminded half of the forum of Dooley. We did not look prepared for GT at all.

I just wish they had played Dormady this whole time...Dormandy is a scrub and almost single-handedly cost us the game! Herbstreit was aghast at how bad Dormandy was! Thank god CBJ decided to put Dormady in!

1-0. That's all that matters at this point. There are definitely areas of concern, but it's disingenuous to blame all the bad on Butch and then given him no credit it all for anything positive that happens.

Just like last year, struggling against inferior teams does not bode well for the rest of the season. Celebrate the W, but seriously, we still have a ton of issues with the oline and the entire defense that we shouldn't be seeing in year 5 of Butch's tenure.

He was very lucky? That's the only positive I can see for Jones. I will give all credit in the world to CRG.

Fade route, burger, 'boro-vol, catbone, volfannbama...all should take a leap...off a cliff. They are truly the worst of the worst on this board. Perhaps they will choke on their crow....

What the hell, man?

This.

1-0 is excellent.

Not being able to handle an unranked team is inexcusable at this point.

I'd rather be in our position working on our issues than be where Florida, Texas A&M and that ilk are.

Also, some folks here can't even bring themselves to celebrate the W. Why not enjoy it at least one night? I don't remember all the teams that beat us in the last minutes in heartbreaking fashion apologizing for their wins.

Because if this is a trend, any team with a running game and a defense will probably be a major struggle.

I'm truly hoping that this was because of an exotic offense and week 1 jitters.

I probably need a small helping as I thought and wrote we'd beat them going away which we did not. They were better than I expected but our talent on both sides of the ball was a mismatch for them that finally came through for us in the end. Tickled our kids woke up and acted like they wanted it and took it from GT. The sidelines going into OT told the story that was about to unfold.

Maybe, except for the 5 drops in the first half (not sure of exact number, but plus or minus one, I bet I'm close) makes it hard to manage the clock, and the defensive play calling is also hard to pin on the coaches (especially considering removing Justin martin from the starting CB position, mid game, yet again, also being the right call), but you're right; they had all off-season to prepare, and almost lost it all. I'm glad Quinten Dormad"nd"y was able to finish out the game with a "W", and I think that's going to be the most hopeful outcome for the season to come. I don't like Butch's system, but I hope for our sake it can work. And you can't hope for better than 1-0 at the end of it call.

GT's runs against our dline, weren't some sort of magical plays that we'll never see again. They were relatively pedestrian, and for the most part, we ran the same sort of plays with Dobbs/Hurd/Kamara, only ours were a bit more spontaneous due to our relatively ineffectual oline in 2016.

We will see a lot of counter, QB runs, and dive plays.

We were a three point favorite at a "neutral stadium" and we won the game. It was basically a pick 'em. Also, we're ranked 25th, so we were barely ranked ourselves, and it's not like we were playing some pushover FCS or non-P5 team either.

Year five and we got extremely lucky tonight. We want more.

Eat crow? Not really. We actually won a close one. However, I really cannot see how any Vol fan can be truly happy and satisfied with what we saw against GT. I guess I will take a crow leg. I mean we just put their QB, who was making his first start by the way, into Heisman contention.

We were embarrassing.
