The "coaching" narrative

I understand that somebody has to be the object of fan frustration, but does anyone really think the message in the second half was strikingly different than in the first?

Butch Jones may have gone from goat to great in an hour tonight, but he didn't flip a switch. He's the same guy.

The offense looked pretty dang impressive in the 2nd half. Did Debord find a new playbook under the desk?

They're not perfect, but they don't stink. Keep that in mind next time you get bent out of shape.

I think there was a remarkably different approach in playcalling. I think there was a "nothing to lose" mindset in the second half. I'm not going to rain on today's parade bc this victory is one of the best I can recall in my adult lifetime. That said, what was witnessed in the first 3.5 games gives reason to be, at a minimum, concerned. I hope Jones uses this momentum to take us to the promised land but one game still does not define a career. Just like at work, you gotta perform with consistency. Here's to seeing the second half Vols more often. Let's all enjoy the win and get ready to Sherman march through Athens! GBO!

well...team played better. 1st half wasnt' striking different than the other 3 games this season.

What I watch 1st half was a team unmotivated...second half was the team I've been waiting to see all year.

Maybe the light switch finally flipped.

CBJ is a good coach....maybe nto the best, yet, but a good coach. Mistakes in the first half were 100% player errors, which half of this board doesn't want to talk about.

Great half time adjustments by both players and coaches.

This is one very, very happy VOL fan right now.

yeah...right on brother...coaches been coaching to drop passes this year. Player error was the number 1 factor in the first half. Just admit it when player have more do to with wins or losses than coaches sometimes.

I agree with every single thing you said. We've been (patiently) waiting to see the team that came out in the 2nd half. Momentum is a powerful thing; hope it carries down to Athens.

Hell it doesn't matter at this point, we won lets go a week and enjoy the thought that Florida choked, we rolled, tabor got it stuck up his ...., what ever makes you happy just love it! Call a gator fan and remind them everyday!

I just must say....I absofreakinglootly loved the look on MC's face the entire second half.

Still wish you guys at the game would have started the QUACK when our VOLS were in the victory formation....what would have been EPIC!!

meh...whatever....real difference was player execution. Plain and simple. There was no stark difference in the halves...cept the players started balling. Those with the "coaching" angle will call it different, but I know what I saw.

You're free to your opinion but I don't agree. Great offensive strategies utilize their weapons and those weapons are used to being targeted. For the first 3 games we barely utilized our offensive weapons. Then, when we needed them, they didn't look ready to perform. It's also a mindset thing, which stems from both coaching and philosophy. These are talented players. Several of the drops in the first 3.5 games came from players who will very likely play on Sundays. While occasional drops are on individual players, when it happens like we've experienced the first 3.5 games, that's beyond player performance in my eyes.

But, like I said, you're free to have your own opinion. Just don't expect me to agree bc I think it's more philosophy/game approach/inadequate usage. Either way, those offensive muscles have now been flexed so perhaps they'll be ready for use the rest of the season.

How the heck is dropping a pass not on the individual player? Do some people honestly think our coaches really work on the receivers dropping the ball...I mean I know our coaches don't know anything at all, they are the worst coaches in history and can never make a great call, I'm sure the drop by Croom was drawn up in the dirt by Dobbs in the huddle, as was the deep ball to Jennings and the slant to Malone. That was all the players, no coaching help at all. Only problem is we don't huddle so not really sure where they drew it up, maybe on the sidelines or during halftime while the coaches went out for frosty's.

Jeez I think the coaches deserve just a tad of credit. Certainly the players and coaches are far gutsier than most of us fans.
