Not Saban......Not Stoops.......Not Meyer.....but Doug Dickey. CDD is coming into a similar situation as Dickey was in 1964 (downtrodden program trying to hold on to old traditions like the single wing, plus being an outsider and young). Dickey was the best coach at UT in my lifetime, IMO, for what he did in a short period of t9ime and how he left the program when he left.

The guy did some good things for the Tennessee program. A few on here don't like him for whatever reason. Probably leaving for Gainesville had something to do with it. The Vols won a lot while he was here though as coach and as AD.

Be honest, you're just saying that because they share the same initials....

Seriously, I don't know if he should just go with one coaching model. Take and learn from many, but that's just me.

With Saban and being the son of Vince Dooley. I think you will see a mix of those two in his game planning and coaching abilities.

46-15-4. Not taking anything away from Coach Dickey....great accomplishment. But to say that he should be emulated over Saban (2 national championships at 2 different schools), Meyer (national championship, 2 undefeated seasons at 2 different schools), and Stoops (national championship, 4 NC games this decade) is crazy. Saban (DuBoise, Franchione, Shula) , Meyer (Zook), AND Stoops (Blake) all took over programs that were in DEEP trouble. I would take any one of those guys. If CDD can turn UT around like Saban, Meyer, or Stoops, I think vols cans will be happy for a LONG time.

Yes.

John Gruden will be the new head coach, with Bill Cowher as Athletic Director. Book it!

/sarcasm

ha...ha...i admit i was dumb asking that but just as dumb as everyone thought that Cowher and Gruden might come here to coach and a lot of volnation was pushing that for the last 3 years....

Leaving was not the problem. The way he left caused a bad taste in a lot of fans' mouths. UT played Fla in the Gator Bowl that season and he did not go for a win when UT had the chance and left for Fla. He returned as AD and a lot was forgotten. He did a very good job as both coach and as AD. In reality, he wanted to stay as UT coach but his wife wanted to return to Fla.

Derek Dooley will do best if he tries to be Derek Dooley.

To me Dooley is more like Saban than anyone.
I agree. He is meticulous and expects perfection in every aspect of the football program. I don't know what we will get as far as X's and O's from Dooley but he has the approach to be very successful as a HC.

Sorry, Cowher coming as AD is dumber than imagining him coming as HC.

1) He has experience as HC not AD business experience.

2) His salary history is HC not AD

His disastrous basketball hires while AD probably contribute to those feelings. He was certainly legit as a coach though.

I'll trade Basketball for Football any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

I think a large portion of the fanbase has a similar sentiment, but there's really no trade necessary. One sport does not drain from the other.

It's hypothetical and if i had to choose. It's the sport i prefer and Basketball is just a bonus.

....Dooley came here with a better resume than Dickey had with more depth and variety. Dooley is a far smarter man than Dickey, more systematic in his approach, more detailed. The wise fan is likely to want Dooley to be Dooley........
