The Coach HypEl Hype thread.

Been thinking about what sort of staff they’ll announce tomorrow. Given the likelihood of sanctions and this being something of a rebuild situation, whoever CJH hires probably has to assume that they’re going to be stuck here unless and until we start seeing a turnaround. I’m thinking that working on this staff will most appeal to coaches who have one stop left before retirement and young guys who aren’t really viewed by the industry as up and comers with lots of options. I envision this staff being analogous to the baseball team in the movie Major League.

Accomplished G5 guys who want their shot in the P5. Accomplished P5 guys who find themselves free agents because of regime changes. The odd football coach who floats between college and the pros effectively. When they wear the orange, let them feel something special. Amen, and pass the biscuits.

If I'm an accomplished G5 guy who knows three will be lots of options in 10 months, do I really want this to be the spot where I take my shot at the big time? I guess there were a few accomplished free agents as you describe (Muschamp and Mason probably being the cream of that crop) but the only one left on the table that I can think of is Steele. I really don't think Garner is half the recruiter he used to be, which just happens with these hype men as they get older, but I guess you take him if he wants to come. I would not want anyone else from Auburn's staff and absolutely nobody from Sumlin's AZ staff. Pelini is a name but can he do better here than at LSU, assuming he'd even take the call? I foresee a bunch of misfits, which is fine because sometimes that can work and it would be a nice departure (IMO) from what we just had.

@VolunteerHillbilly : The grass isn’t greener over the hill. It’s browner right here. Maybe there are some who rehabilitate lawns, but they’re not going to come here. Only losers who are marking time sucking payroll want to tread this sod. The grass isn’t just brown it’s dead. We’re losers reunited.

You’re posting like a Dawgs fan. Snap out of it. Find your inner orange.

I'm just not expecting big hires like some of the people in the FF suggesting we're about raid the defensive staffs of TB and KC seconds after the Lombardi Trophy is awarded. Might turn out to be decent coaches but I don't think the transfer portal becomes our lifeline instead of a gaping wound based on whoever they announce. We're probably going to have to take another step or two down the ladder before we hit bedrock and start rebuilding.
