It's real guys!! I knew it!! There is a chart!! and it's In the NFL!! the only difference is that the Jaguars were up 19 points on their opponent, the NY Giants with only 25 seconds remaining...Here is the Excerpt

"Deep into the Jacksonville Jaguars' demolition of the New York Jets on Sunday, Jags coach Doug Marrone chose to run up the score.

Following T.J. Yeldon's one-yard touchdown run on fourth-and-goal with 25 seconds left in the fourth quarter and the Jaguars up by 19 points over the Jets, Marrone kept the offense on the field for a two-point conversion attempt.

The attempt failed, but if it had been completed, the Jaguars would have turned a three-score game into a ... three-score game.

Asked about his decision to extend his team's lead from 19 to 21 points, or three touchdowns, with half a minute left in the game, Marrone told reporters, per The Athletic's Daniel Popper, "The chart said go for two."

It should be pointed out that Marrone and the Jetshave history. After leaving the Buffalo Bills following the 2014 season, Marrone interviewed for the vacant Jets job, but was passed over for Todd Bowles. Marrone is 14-8 since taking over the Jaguars coaching job, while Bowles is 21-31.

When asked if he was sending a message to the Jets via an unnecessary two-point conversion, Marrone said, "We're not good enough to send a message right now."

The Jets, already embarrassed by Bortles' career afternoon, did not take kindly to Jacksonville's rubbing it in.

"I think it's really disrespectful," defensive lineman Leonard Williams said, per NJ.com, "but at the same time, I think it's up to us to gain that respect from other teams and if teams are disrespecting us, it must say something about us. That's how I took it. i took it really personal and I didn't like it at all."

"That's just what they felt that they wanted to do," outside linebacker Jordan Jenkins added. "Whether it was a statement or not, we'll never know. But we won't forget."

For what it's worth, Marrone's quarterback, Blake Bortles, couldn't have cared less whether Jacksonville went for it or not, telling reporters, "I just work here.""

OP, you just put 8n a ton of work to win the "Captain Obvious" Title. Every, and I mean EVERY, coach has and uses a chart. A chart means that someone sat down with plenty of time on their hands to look a scoring situations late in ball games. As bad as you don't want to hear it, CJP used the chart yesterday in going for 2 both times.

The only reason " the chart" gets traction on VN is bc Butch used it as a crutch when explaining a scoring choice in the 15' UF bed wetting. Jones didn't even make a bad decision. Had we not given up a game winning TD or missed the game flipping FG, nobody around here would know what you even mean @ "the chart".

Yes, but from what I remember it was more than one game. It also had to do about his philosophy of being overly conservative when holding a lead. Instead of trying to go for a winning drive or stepping on the pedal, he would run, run, run, punt to kill clock because it was the situational strategy hes was stubbornly committed too.. hence it was referenced widely that his "chart" must have told him this was the proper stategy, since he stubbornly followed it believing the probabilities would eventually work out in his favor.. but instead we lost many games because of it.

Also, if there is a chart out there...Butch and Marone must have gotten the same one...wasn't he a dark horse candidate for the UT job last year..??

Should point out.. you said the giants.. then referenced the jets..
Eh....both teams suck so much they are basically interchangeable...

maybe they should combine their players together and form a half-decent team for the city..but even then they would probably still suck

Butch definitely had a ultra conservative chart in his head. He'd start playing not to lose in the 2Q if he got a 2TD lead. He must have created that one all on his own.

The chart exists and is legit. It most likely involves some high level probabily analysis on different outcomes to give a coach the decision with the best odds (similar to the blackjack cheat cards you can buy in Vegas).

Butch’s problem is that he didn’t read or apply the chart correctly.

I've never seen a chart that included "If you're up by 19...".

In today’s football, where points can be scored in bunches, making the correct decision with a 19-point lead is important.

Now, as pointed out above, it was unnecessary with 25 seconds left. But, with 1:25 or more left on the clock, going for 2 absolutely is the right call.

It is not a lot different than Butch’s Florida bungle.
