The Case for/against Pruitt in Pruitt's Own Language

The number 1 problem is offense (didn't say only problem), even going back through much of the CBJ era. You can work on everything else, get better - but we need to invest time and effort into fixing the offense. Even assuming the defense can hold the big three in the 30s......you're still losing by a lot because the offense has a hard time breaking into double digits or even the 20s against these teams. You're not competing offensively and by default you're putting pressure on a defense that can't take it.

Pruitt, Chaney and JG have been the three headed monster here. Their history includes the above scoring trend, seemingly not using the middle of the field, an inaccurate QB who's only direction is down in any game or quarter caught with no spring practice and all things COVID related. At this point some dynamic has to change between these three guys. Staying the current course is insane.

When Pruitt lost to the Georgia State Panthers that was when I was like , "I'm all in" definetly heading in the right direction.
That was a good year 2 evaluation.

I'm not being smart or argumentative when I say this, but Fulmer is married to Pruitt. Pruitt could lose (and might) every game the rest of the year, and he'll still be here next year, and the year after that.

If I remember correctly, Fulmer would not / did not fire Sanders (who I thought was decent, but certainly not Cutcliffe) until sufficient pressure was put on by the AD, so unless he's learned from his mistakes, he won't let Pruitt go either.

He sees himself in Pruitt ... the hot coordinator with a knack for recruiting that will work like heck to find a way to win, thus, he is hoping to live vicariously thru Pruitt, and fulfill the Big Orange return to glory.

I think we need to just hope and pray (as it were) that Pruitt is what Fulmer believes him to be, cause he ain't going anywhere.
When Fulmer got the head coaching gig, the team was loaded. He didn't have to do a rebuild in any way. Totally different situation that Pruitt inherited

While that is true, it has nothing to do with what I said, which was, 1) Fulmer sees himself in Pruitt, and 2) Fulmer won't be letting Pruitt go because he is married to him (figuratively speaking as his legacy as AD is connected to Pruitt's success as coach) and 3) if Fulmer hasn't learned from his (probably biggest) flaw in his time as HC, he will repeat the same mistake as AD, which is keeping Pruitt until he is forced to let him go.

That is why I say, the best case scenario is that Pruitt is all Fulmer thinks he is. Does that make sense?

Yes and I think your last statement in the previous paragraph is spot on. I think you will find that many of Pruitt's staunchest defenders at this point are fans who thought Fulmer should have never been fired

It’s so easy not to lose at home to Kentucky by 27 points......it hasn’t been done in over 100 years.....until this year.

Well ... you're prolly right.
Personally, I don't think it's time to fire Pruitt yet, but I was in the camp that it was time for Fulmer to be replaced.
That said, I'm actually glad he's the AD ... at least I feel like someone that gives a flip about the program is in office, rather than accountants, and terrible one's at that.

This is a fantasy
Were we not in a much more hopeless situation last year before we benched JG? Uh yes we were. We started out 2-0 this year. Last years team would have gotten boatraced by USC if they started out against them and would have lost to Missouri.

If Dearth Guarantano didn't singlehandedly ruin that Kentucky game we are 3-2 and right where we thought we would be.

We have hit a similar wall with a better team than last year. A wall where JG has sucked the life out of the program.

He is Dearth JG.

You remember who provided the spark last year right?

Yeah he's still on the team. There's no reason he wouldn't inject the same energy into this years team as he did last year. A team that has beaten SEC teams. A team just this year that had people saying "we are a good QB away from really competing with the big boys"

Even if BM or Bailey amount to nothing but game managers, the simple fact that Dearth Guarantano would be on the bench will make everything better.

IF we start BM against the swine I will be prepared to eat my words. But I'm right confident on this one.

When Dearth Guarantano is benched everything will begin to look up again. Fact.

He is the HC, DC and DL coach. Unless he gets a staff that he can give up some control too, that can produce and that he can believe in. He is doomed. Right now he is a college football Dan Quinn.
