the case against Sumlin

Overall record was 3-3 vs. Mullen. I can live with that. Sumlin had more success when he had Manziel, Mullen had more success when Prescott burst onto the scene...

Not relevant. If you think UT is going to get a Coach who has beat all the Top Tier Coaches you need to get your head out of the sand. Sumlin not a bad option as you said so the fan base needs to stop posting negative comments about potential candidates.

What are TN's goals? To win a championship. If Sumlin could win championships he would still be at Texas A & M.
If you are serious about championships seek out and hire Dave Shaw from Stanford, Mike Leach from WS, Lane Kiffin or Les Miles. But of course, I'm expecting too must for a splashing hire that doesn't include one of these 4 men.

I will start by saying I'd be ok with him if hired based on the options we have. One major stat hit me when I did some digging.

His record against Dan Mullen at Mississippi State. He lost 3 of the last 4 games against Mullen - who will be the head coach at our most hated rival in the east. You would expect he had better talent at A&M than Dan had in Starkville, yet he has a losing record against him. Most years, Florida has more talent than us so it would not bode well. On the other hand, at least maybe he can beat Muschamp and Vandy so it would be a step in the right direction.
Listen Vol fans you need to take whatever you can get at this point

are you in the third grade?

What’s crazy is that we are incredulous that Knoxville’s finest doesn’t know A&M’s long and storied history, but how many of today’s recruits even know Tennessee as a relevant SEC program? As far as they’re concerned we’re an also ran school with a big stadium and cool uniforms.

Piss off!

51-29 in the SEC and that’s against the West. What was bUTcher’s record in the SEC? Give me 51-29 in the SECover the next 6 yrs and we will have a couple of SEC East banners to hoist

Sumlin is not my first choice or even my first choice on some names remaining BUT I can make a case for him. We could do MUCH worse and were a signature away from it. If we can’t get others like Miles, Tee, or Kiffin then I would be onboard with Sumlin with the right staff

Kevin Sumlin at TA&M

2012 Texas A&M 11–2 6–2
2013 Texas A&M 9–4 4–4

2014 Texas A&M 8–5 3–5
2015 Texas A&M 8–5 4–4
2016 Texas A&M 8–5 4–4
2017 Texas A&M 7–5 4-4

Anybody besides me see a pattern?
Johnny Manziel is to Kevin Sumlin as Tony Dorset is to Johnny Majors....Majors being the better coach and Dorset being the far better athlete and human being though.

I think KS is the most unrealistic of the remaining choices. Other schools in much better situations than us will meet or at least come close to what UT can offer.

If Butch had faced Saben, Miles, and Malzahn every year he would be 0-3.

What about Mark Mangino? He did a great job at Kansas for 8 seasons as well as UAB. Have to admit he would look great in orange :)

Always ask yourself on a coach who just got fired, WHY did he get fired?

He was there 6 years, the last 3 he was on the hot seat. Would start hot every year only to lose 4 or 5 in a row each year.

I do think he is a decent X and O coach but how do you recruit worse than Butch at TX? Only twice in six years did he even have a top 10 recruiting class at THE recruiting hotbed. I would question his recruiting. A few studs? Yes, it’s freaking Tx. Think he would be ok on the X and O side.

Why can't UT attract a winning football coach who can compete with the likes of Bama, Auburn and Georgia? Because UT has incompetent administrators in the athletic department and in the school administration specifically. It isn't because of the fan base being negative. Other SEC schools suffer the same situation with their fans. Until the boosters or someone else can exert enough influence to make a change in administrators (Currie specifically, not sure about Davenport yet), UT football is going to wallow in mediocrity at best or continue to rest at the bottom of the SEC East with Vanderbilt for a while. I'm 74 years old and fear that I will never again witness a winning Vol football team.
