The Case Against Ohio State

The question regarding the eye test is, is one team really that good or is the other that bad?? Ohio St 99.9% of the time will get the benefit of the doubt.

I think what the Big 10 is doing is BS and I don’t think any team who only plays 5 games should be looked at the same as a team who played 10 games. The Big 10 and PAC 12 chose to start their season late, being left out of the playoff is what should happen.

If Bama or Florida were only 5-0 at this point and OSU and Michigan were 10-0 and 9-1...the big 10 would lose its mind if they were given the same treatment

If it is the "best" teams then just go by recruiting rankings and who was decent the year before. Actually playing games and winning against good competition doesn't matter.

In reality, it is who has looked good and will bring the highest ratings. The committee can say what they want and go back and forth and have their little meetings but that is really what we are talking about.

Yeah. In a normal year, you have 130 teams playing 12 or 13 games. This year it's 127 playing somewhere between 4 and 11. There's no way to have a large enough sample size to use anything other than a subjective assessment. You can disagree with the committee's conclusions, but as things currently exist, there really isn't a better method.

Then this year champion should have an asterisk next to the title....whoever it turns out to be. At the end of the day it is subjective on who got to play for what based on an unequal amount of games, number of players, starters out, changed venues, differing protocol procedures, etc..nothing was equal or apples to apples.

Screw that. If Bama goes 13-0 against a Power 5 only schedule, you can shove the asterisk.

You can argue all you want, at the end of the day not all teams Bama played were bound by the same state protocols as Bama.

This wasn’t apples to apples. Bama or not, this year is an asterisk year.

What does that have to do with tinfoil hat? It’s a fact different teams were bound by different protocols. All had to meet the conference and SEC standard and some had to go beyond depending on local protocols. Some states have mask mandates and some dont, some have stricter contact tracing and some don’t, etc..

Contact tracing caused us to make BUTCH JONES our RBs coach against LSU! You show me one f***ing program whose been hit harder by Covid!

We lost a pretty big portion of our roster for fall camp and throughout the season. I don’t know the numbers but we are told the we had to endure JG because no one else was ready. He singlenhandily cost us multiple games this year.

But that doesn’t even matter, because my point is EVERY TEAM WAS DIFFERENT. There was not apples to apples, full 85 scholarship teams playing 11 games this year. There just wasn’t.

And let’s be honest, my niece could have coached Bama running backs against LSU this year. It’s not like any of them had to sit due to COVID, and it isn’t like it really needs that much coaching. Most of these Bama coaches are worthless to pedestrian after they leave anyway.

Tell me more about how the FACT that every team was different this year is tinfoil hat stuff.

How is that different than a team being beset by injuries in any normal year? And Bama had a ton of positive cases before the season, including Mac Jones and all but one starter on the o-line. It's not a different virus in Knoxville than the one in Tuscaloosa.

Are you serious?

Absolutely. Except in a normal year, games don't get canceled or postponed because one team is beat up.

Thats a pretty big exception, don't you think? Not to mention missing Fall practices and cancelling Spring altogether.

This is nothing like just dealing with injuries. It's not even in the same ballpark, really. This is a completely different animal that...I will say again...affects every team differently. You can say screw it all you want, whoever wins the title this year will have an asteriks, and rightfully so.

And I will say this, that really sucks for Bama because this looks like the best Saban team yet. It is what it is. Pandemics suck.

Wonder what the overlap is between people who will complain about OSU getting in and those who hated the BCS. If you don’t want human subjectivity saying that OSU is one of the 4 best teams because of the “eye test” or something then you should favor a completely objective ranking system which combines a predictive rating w a strength of record metric. I actually thought the concept of the BCS was fine. We have computers solve a lot more complex problems beyond who the best football team is. The metrics are clear to everyone and thus fair for all. The margin of error is accounted for by taking the top 4.

Here is my opinion. Their resume they don't belong. However 2 reasons I want them to be in. So when either Clemson or Alabama are crowned the Champion. Big 10 apologist nor Ohio State biased fans can say we didnt get the chance to prove ourselves. The other is and believe me I despise Ohio State but their program was hugely in favor of not canceling Big 10 football. Even their players wanted to be a temporary addition to the SEC schedule. So I say when they beat Northwestern let them be in the playoff but capped as the 4 seed.

Let them in and get embarrassed again by either a SEC team or Clemson.
