1. A nice victory over a decent team. The last five minutes were sloppy, but the game was never in doubt when UT put down the gauntlet and played their basketball of the season in the first five minutes of the second half. The defensive energy was palpable and very impressive.

2. Tennessee did a better job running their offense. It looked like they simplified things and the floor spacing was better. They did a good job knowing when to run (especially with Morehead State crashing the glass) and I liked the aggressive nature of the team overall today. It was different. It was good to see.

3. I don't know why. I don't know how. But Derek Reese's contributions were wonderful to see today. He looked like a completely different player than last year. 12 points/10 boards/4 blocks? Are you serious? That will earn you playing time and it should. His floor spacing provides a weapon for Martin.

4. A little disconcerting to see the lapse in the last few minutes. The team got sloppy and that is where you must learn to pull back on those reigns.

5. To go with #4, the turnovers were not a good sight, but it was their first sloppy game with the ball. I'll take it for the season. I'm not too concerned about it.

6. I thought Antonio Barton played his best game this year. He was in control, he shut down the perimeter on defense, and did not make dumb mistakes. It was a positive. This team will go as he takes them.

7. Bernard King Player of the Game: I've been clamoring for Josh Richardson to get more opportunities to score, and he took over the first half. 19 points and 8 boards for Josh. He can easily put up 12-15 a game if he looks for his shot. His aggressiveness set the tone.

8. The best defensive effort of the year. They stopped chasing so much and were aggressive off ball. They played physical without fouling and did a great job protecting the perimeter. Cuonzo, keep playing the pack line defense.

9. Free throws. Free throws. Free throws. Come on gentlemen.

10. Anyways, good win. It was nice to get off the losing streak and get a win before Christmas, and put me in a better mood. They came out and played very well, pushed the tempo a little bit, but used a balanced approach to win. You all have a great Christmas and Happy Holidays to all! Enjoy your loved ones, eats lots of food, drink a little bit more than usual, and kick ass in any holiday games you may play.

Good game, loved the pace, spacing, ball movement, and defensive effort, keeping them off the offensive boards was big. Not worried about the turnovers a lot of those were just sloppy play late. Good for Reese. Nice aggression by the Guy that needs to shoot less in Josh. I'm again cautiously optimistic, we get teased with this type of performance, then it's back to the same old game plan. I've said this before, but I hope we can keep it up.

Shot 12 threes and won, surprise.

If we can somehow become a 75% free throw shooting team we would suddenly become a much better team. 6-8 more points per game would be huge for this team.

Good Win...never been a bigger pre SEC game that I can remember than the UVA game on the 30th.

Win and we have a chance to build some momentum and get on a roll Early in SEC play.

Lose and I don't see a way we get in the NCAA tourney without winning SEC Tourney.

The low 3's were due to the change in style. IMO When we slow it down and run our stagnant offense, we tend to hit panic mode late and jack up 3's. We push it and we get in a better flow, hence less panic mode.

In wins we average 12 threes a game
In losses we average 21 threes a game

Hardly a coincidence, or simply attributed to tonight's style.

I would be curious to know how many of the threes we have been shooting in our losses are in the last 3min in desperation mode. My guess is 5-8 of those in our losses are due to just that.

This keeping up with the 3pt attempts needs to only include the first 37min of games in order to really tell us anything

Would be interested to see, not sure how to go about finding that though. I am guessing that number is still higher in losses in first 37 minutes than it is in wins.

So you're saying in wins we have a better flow offensively. :) They appear to go hand in hand to me, when we lose our offense looks very discombobulated. When we win it seems to have more flow to it.

Better effort, but not going to get excited over a win against this team. Hopefully will build from this.

Like McRaes late shots tonight when we slowed it down.
When looking at the # of threes, you also have to take into consideration that when you are down double digits you may launch 3,4,5,6,7+threes in the last 2 minutes. Tonight, we don't shoot any the last few minutes except McRae in shot clock despair.

Very good point, though in the NC St game we were jacking them up early and often, and the offense looked stuck.

Right. When we are out our best bigs are getting looks, guards are attacking the rim, and threes come on lockouts or in rhythm during transition.

It's why we shot 50% from 3 tonight after what 12% against NCST? They took half as many, were in rhythm, and weren't forced looks.

No way to know without watching film.

My guess is the more accurate comparison is 12:14 maybe 15.

Just guessing though but in any game that inside of 15 you can bet the losing team jacking up alot of 3's in the last five minutes

How much confidence did it look like every player had tonight on offense in attack mode rather than motion mode? Just because you attack the rim off the dribble doesn't mean you aren't sharing the ball. And look at the assist numbers in turn.

Exactly, plus the games we've lost have been when our offense has bogged down in the halfcourt. When I watch and we lose, we are slow offensively and jacking up bad shots late in the shot clock. When the offense has a good flow, there are less three's and we win those games.

Did a quick look at first halfs. In losses we average 10 three point attempts in the first half.

21 for the game so that's just about the same, 10 a half.

Man, if we could run the 4-1 and hit some 3's like that from a player like Reese spreading out the floor, space and lanes would open for everyone.

Shot 8 in the first half against Wichita State up 1. Ended up with 20 and Jordy shot 10. Made 6

Shot 11 in the first half against UTEP down 8. Ended up with 21 in the second half. Made 3

Shot 9 in the first half against Xavier down 7. Ended up with 19. Made 8

Shot 7 in the first half against NCST down 17. Ended up shooting 24. Made 3.
