Then it was the second half.
If I need to go back and find it for you I can. I assure you we played one possession of 1-3-1, and they hit a shot.
This is not my point....it really makes no difference to me.
We have gotten so far from center regarding what's best for this team it is pathetic. Thus we are picking on every aspect of a game pro and con. Most like me could not tell you the diferences in zone man to man box in one or whatever
It really makes no difference what type of defense or offense we are playing, the product is not as good as it should be and we are analyzing this to a point of paralysis.
I don't remember every defensive set last night but they would have gotten beaten if MSU would have made half of their transition baskets.
Honestly, I don't think they were ever in a 1-3-1 zone last night, but I can see where some may think they were in one. Point being the overall product is not the standard we are looking for as fans...I don't think even the coach is happy with it and if he is there is the problem. It he can't get them there then that is another problem. We can dig in the excuse bag -- his players, talent level, point guard, man vs zone, fan support, referees, curses, slumps, AD support, timeouts, lucky shots, and the list goes on and on.
We saw this happen in football and watched our team die a miserable and painful death. To sit back and watch this happen in basketball is total Negligence, incompetence and ignorance. No matter who did the hiring, or firing.
Debate the 1-3-1 zone until you are blue in the face. It doesn't make a difference to me at all because it does nothing but eats up board space and delays the fix. For the sake or argument, I will state that our Vols were in a 1-3-1 zone defense and it worked they only made 3-3 pointers the entire game, but it was the worst zone I have ever seen.
Identify the problem and fix it. The problem is not the defense or offense we are running on the court, It is the product we are putting on the court and how well they are executing the Coach's gameplan which should be a direct reflection of him and his staff, it is ugly.
Do I want Pearl back, yes. Why? Because every time the Vols hit the court I knew exactly what kind of product was going to be on the floor representing Tennessee Basketball.
I will take any coach that consistently puts that kind of team on the court against any level of completion. Did Pearl do it 100% of the time, no. He absolutely did it at least 90%+ of the time.
