Would you be for Bruce Pearl's return if Martin is fired after next year?

yep, it would be like Memphis rehiring Cal...I'd have to find a new team to root for...you don't bring back a guy who embarrassed your program and had to be fired for lying to the NCAA about recruiting violations.

.

Lulz

You're either a liar or in the minority. I've seen quite a few tiger fans say they'd take him back with open arms if if meant Pastner was gone.

It will suck badly to see perhaps the best bball coach TN ever had, winning games for another team! :banghead2:

Hart needs to swallow his pride and get bball back to doing something unusual.......WINNING! :clapping:

What does Hart's pride have to do with this? I don't get how he'd lose face. He didn't fire Pearl or hire Martin. It's the rest of the administration that was actually around 3+ years ago that would have to get past hiring a guy that they previously fired.

I'm sure the johnny-come-lately fans that started watching in 2006 miss him...some of us know about guys like Bartow, Finch, Hardaway, etc and understand no man is bigger than the program.

"scorched earth" Calipari won't be coming back.

Since finances is a concern for the Athletic Department, how many people think you could hire Bruce including the buyout for less than you could hire another coach not including the buyout? Add in the fact that you have an instantly full basketball arena of Vol fans and its a no brainer!

Bruce has a buyout? What are you talking about?

We played 1-3-1 in all 3 of those games lol
2 minutes against Vandy, 1 minute against Missouri, and 0 minutes against A & M LMAO Guess what? You cannot show me one instance where a team hit a 3 pointer against the 1-3-1. If you are so smart, which you are not, give me a game and a time that a team did. I have watched it all!!!

They ran it 7 and a half minutes against Florida and Florida did not score against it. The first three they hit was in transition. Martin promptly went back to man-to-man and Wilbekin banked one in!

Georgia hit a 3 against the 1-3-1, first possession we played it.

Your biggest winner was Dana Kirk and his time is still the favorite time for most Memphis fans back at the old coliseum in the Metro days. Finch ended up being terrible and Penny was getting cash when he was a freshman in HS from Bobby Dodds aau team streamlining every player to Memphis state.
Basketball is crooked. If anybody wants a story about a coach or player at a school, there are many options.

I stand corrected. Glad you went back and looked. Teams have hit 1 3 pointer against the 1-3-1. Want to know why they hit that one? Barton was on the point instead of Thompson! I didn't recall seeing it against Georgia. Martin played it a grand total of 1 minute from 5:09 to 4:08 of the first half. The only point I am making is Tennessee would have won 3 more and lost 3 less if it had been used strategically. I ran it very successfully as a coach! Cuonzo Martin absolutely refuses to be known for winning a game because of a zone defense. He hates any kind of zone! If you will notice teams have figured it out. All they have to do is get past their man and drive to the basket. The bigs are scared of foul trouble and do not defend.

Then the buy out applies no matter who you hire.
Here is what I was saying. Pearl would work for a lower salary than another new coach coming in if given the chance. (A coach of his caliber coming to Tennessee would break the bank!) That lower salary would compensate for the buyout covering the loss by the athletic department. Coupled with the increased attendance as another Vol fan mentioned, they might actually make money instead of losing it.

What? I'm not a 'fighting Martin' by any stretch of the imagination, but I don't think he "hates any kind of zone".

IMO, this is like saying Boeheim is a poor coach because Syracuse only runs the match-up zone defense.

Bottom line is that coaches usually have a preference one way or the other...the difference in whether it wins or loses you games is in how you teach and coach it.

I wouldn't count on it. Pearl will be in demand and won't come as cheap as some believe.

I would love it so much if Bruce did come back and Bruce and Butch had a variety show on every weekend, in which they tried various foods while giving coaching tips.

Can you imagine them having a 20 minute conversation about Philly Cheese Steaks? Butch talking about how sound the sandwich as a whole is, while Bruce is basically freaking out about how delicious it is with every bite?

I would totally watch that show.

He will be discounted. There is no denying that.

BTW- wasn't someone saying they were looking into reducing his show cause deadline to before August based on SEC suspension? I'm not sure it would work. In fact, I'm skeptical

I bring it up because if a team wants to hire him for next year, they are going to have to go before the NCAA if they want him active before August.

Not that it hasn't been done before, and can't be done again, but the University would have to demonstrate the increased controls that will be put in place to check his activities. I like having a compliance officer follow him around
