Would you be for Bruce Pearl's return if Martin is fired after next year?

Bruce isn't coming back. The program is declining again. I refer to our bball program to Vandy's football program. The flash bang coach is gone and both programs are returning to reality.

Wrong. There is no reason we can't be a perennial top 25 team. We have a large arena, resources and a fan base. We are a football school and it won't ever be like Duke but there is no reason for any program at this University to be on a parallel with Candy football.

I would love Bruce back, but he will coach somewhere else next year, Best bet for the program is we get a young, tourney experienced coach, but more than likely CM will still be here.

Michael White may get his team there and would be extremely cheap, name to watch IMO.

I honestly haven't asked that, nor do I feel it's appropriate as they blatantly mentioned that as one of the things that's most annoying to them.

Fair enough. If you were a recruit getting ready to play for CM next year, would you be confident in his abilities to lead a team based on his career at UT? Just a hypothetical.

Look at the list of top 150 recruits, you'd be surprised where some of these guys are going to school and who they're gonna play for.

My point being...a coach when recruiting is a salesman in every sense, his job is to convince recruits of the job he can do and sell himself to them.

Obviously Anthony Grant has been to the tournament, but he hasn't had a whole lot more success than Martin since being at Bama. Take a look at the class he's getting ready to bring in...

Does that make sense?

Hart lost his job partly due to his trying to force Bowden out when he knew he was past his prime and President TK Weatherall wouldn't allow it. Weatherall happened to play football under Bowden and Bowden had many folks in his corner. Hart was fighting a losing battle. Little did people know, he might've saved that program from the downfall they experienced if they let him do his job.

I was of the understanding that Hart lost his job because he WOULDN'T fire Bowden and the administration wanted him to. I could be wrong, I haven't looked into it at all. Just what I had heard.

It will never happen. Bruce is NEVER coming back.

<plugs ears and says "I can't hear you" over and over>

Seriously though, hiring Bruce is, pardon the pun, a slam dunk for the basketball program. And as I and many others have said, the combination of Butch and Bruce would skyrocket the value of the UT brand. It's great to have one of those guys on campus, but both? Are you kidding me?

Can you imagine the field day the UT media and marketing departments would have putting them both in commercials together?

Market the brand baby !

The bottom line as we all know and all of this is money. It's obvious regardless of how you feel about Bruce or Coach Martin or the program in general we are losing fans by the hundreds and if we do not make the tournament and actually do well I fear next year could really be a bombshell. So having said all that I think the administration and the University would do what ever is best to accomplish those goals of increasing revenue in the program and I think at the end of the day to use a worn-out expression they would have no problem rehiring coach Bruce Pearl. I think the things we think are important really aren't that important when they start looking at the big picture. I know from my perspective with my company I would be considering other things that we are not thinking of with the basketball program. JMO

The only reason I brought that up is because recruits know we have big dance talent on this team but CM has only shown the ability to reach the NIT at this point.

I agree, but saying TBA wouldn't be big enough is about as idiotic as any statement I've seen on VN.

I believe the statement was a bit tongue in cheek. What's idiotic is you insulting that guy for being an idiot when the moral of his statement was that attendance would not only not suffer under Pearl but likely thrive.

Right and I get that, but as I mentioned with Grant as one example, coaches still sell themselves and the vision. Grant has underperformed every year, made just 1 dance, but has a very good incoming class. Obviously it's easier to recruit if you're winning more, but it's not impossible to recruit if you aren't having great success.

Opposite. Weatherall and Hart were at odds over most things regarding football as Hart felt Weatherall micro-managed him. From what I've read and heard while living in FL, Hart approached Bowden about stepping down and Bobby basically told him to pound sand and he had Weatherall's backing.

BTO constantly does this. He is easily the biggest tool on the bball forum.

No-one in the history of message boards, does more 180's than you. You're such a douche bag lol.

I'm sorry you feel that way, but apparently your reading comprehension is about as good as your vocabulary.

Could you provide a couple examples of some 180s that I've done?

I assume you're saying my, I'd love Bruce back is 1? Fail. I've always maintained I don't think there's a chance he comes back, but I don't recall ever saying I wouldn't support the vols if he returned.

Said poster calls me on everything I say, he made a very over exaggerated statement so I called him on that. He also happens to be one of the biggest Pearl homers there is, so part of me thinks that what he said is actually accurate.

I'm very sorry if that offended you.

No you wouldn't, because then you would be wrong and we all know the great BTO is never wrong.

What would I be wrong on?

That Bruce came back when I said he wouldn't?

Ouch, that'll burn. I've said it before and I'll say it again...I'm a Tennessee basketball supporter, I want what's best for this program. Whether that's Cuonzo Martin, Hillary Clinton, Phil Jackson or Bruce Pearl it doesn't make a whole lot of difference to me...I want what's best.

You didn't just say he wasn't coming back, but tried your hardest to make people feel dumb for even thinking it was a possibility.

Ok and people tried to make me feel dumb for ever saying Martin would make the dance.

So what you're saying is if Martin makes the dance this year that those people will be just as wrong and foolish as I was?

I don't think he's coming back, I think there's too many people in the way...but don't get that confused with "I don't want him back", because I would definitely still support the Vols.

Yes, if they were foolish enough to think there was absolutely no way he could make the dance then they are just as wrong.

I never said you didn't want him back or that you wouldn't be accepting of his return. Just that you criticized everyone who thought there was even the slightest chance.

I still don't think there's a chance, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't take him back.
