You should start preparing yourself.
Actually, it's not. How many millions do you think it's cost the University in buyouts, lost revenue, etc. due to Pearl's bad decision? Now why would you give him the chance to do it to you again when there are others out there who could perform the job at the same level.
Probably $0 millions. I doubt they had to buy out anybody because they were fired with cause.
And it's not Pearl's fault they failed to hire someone who was good enough to fill the seats and put a winning product on the floor.
I'm not arguing that Tennessee "could" hire someone who might perform at the same level as Pearl. My argument is that Pearl's performance is a known commodity, he's available, and he lives in town.
I live in Birmingham, and that's exactly what the fans are hoping for here. Yee friggin hah... I will officially stop watching UT basketball at that point. The thought of a Bruce Pearl coached Alabama team handing our azzes to us makes me ill.
I sincerely hope that if Bruce is not hired back to UT, that he is hired by an SEC team. I desperately want to see the melt down that occurs up close and personal on game days. Until the regime in administration and on the BOT changes on the hill - crisis management will be the order of the day every day.
My final thoughts and I'll be done in this thread for a while.
Violations happen. We commit violations. We break the speeding limits, rolling stops, accidentally leave stuff off our taxes, etc. **** happens. We are flawed human beings. I get it.
However, integrity it still important, at least to me. Tennessee is an academic institution that, in part of its statement, encourages integrity.
Bruce Pearl lied, tried to cover up his lie, and tried to get others to cover for him. He has shown a propensity for screwing up in the past. He's not worth the risk in of itself to be hired, plus he would be a bad example for the university in my opinion. It sends a bad message to others that lying is okay. Do I believe Pearl should never be allowed to coach again? No. He received his punishment and when it has ended, he can do as he pleases. However, it shouldn't be at Tennessee. He's had his chance. His was a great run. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I wish he didn't screwed up. Had he left for the NBA and was fired, health reasons, etc. and the AD fired Coach Martin, I'd be perfectly fine with him coming back to the program.
However, that is not the case nor the circumstances. Tennessee isn't an elite coaching job, but is definitely a top 25 job and Tennessee can hire someone with good credentials that can achieve great success here. Bruce Pearl isn't the only man available for the Tennessee job, nor should he be. He has too much baggage that he carries.
Tennessee doesn't have to resort to a man with a three year show clause over his head. Tennessee can do better than that and deserves better than that.
Please name one proven, winning coach better than Pearl that would come to Tennessee.
