Would you be for Bruce Pearl's return if Martin is fired after next year?

Example....

and while you're at it, a link to something saying the basketball program has lost millions since Pearl left.

The year before Pearl left the athletic dept. presented the university with a ten million dollar check. For the past two years the university has had to subsidize the athletic dept.
Go figure?

Go figure, that was before 3 losing seasons in football, the driving force of the athletic department.

It will be on every job application he puts in. Just like every job application asks why you left your previous employer, it will be on there. It won't just magically disappear.

Some won't hire him bc of it but there will be plenty that will if he wants to coach again.

The ones that want to win will. People act as if he is the only coach/person to ever make a mistake and should be exiled from ever coaching again. Get real.

He who is without sin cast the first stone.

People on Volnation also act as though he is the only coach that can succeed at UT. There are a lot of good coaches out there, why re-hire one that was fired and banned from coaching for 4 years?

Find me where anyone said he should be exiled from ever coaching again. No one has said that. I am looking forward to him getting another job, just not with my University.

Agree, but I tweaked your post a little. :)

There are obviously other coaches that could be successful here, Martin included (we will find out this season). I'm not arguing that, nor am I arguing that we bring him back.

I'm just saying that if it came to the point where we needed a new coach, and he is available. Then why not?

He's proven that he can consistently be successful here and he would be one of the best coaches, if not the best coach available and possibly one of the only ones willing to come here.

I view it as a business decision and despite what happened in the past he could still bring a lot of value to the program. I just don't get why he wouldn't be deserving of a second chance if the opportunity presented itself?

Do you think he would be stupid enough to screw up again? I feel like if he decided to coach again he would be smart enough to know that it's his shot at redemption and that any mistake would officially end his career and reputation.

It's just my opinion, nothing more, nothing less.

I hear you, just don't agree that they should hire him back. I liked the guy, but IMO he had his chance and blew it. But like you said, that's my opinion.

As history has shown we can hire coaches with mediocre winning percentages, but we have only had one coach that could play with the big programs consistently. The Pearl haters will now bring up the last season as an example but what I say is true. Even if Martin makes the tourney he is and will always be mediocre.

Best thing about pearl is that you could always have confidence that we would be in the game until the end with any opponent.

I won't write Martin off yet, but do I think that he can beat a number one team on any given night like Pearl? No. Do I think he will ever field a team that will be ranked #1 even if it's only for a day? No. Do I think Martin can lead a team to the elite 8? No, but this year is his chance, he may not have this much depth and talent on a roster again.

I hope he proves me wrong. Sad thing is even if he did I wouldn't be too impressed because I feel these things should all be attainable.

So you have more faith in Mike Hamilton than Dave Hart? Hamilton was a horrible hiring AD and even he found Pearl.

Who has Hart hired that was a mistake?

Really? Pearl got ran out of the gym plenty if times.

That's my problem, you guys only remember the good games and completely ignore the bad.

1 elite 8 outweighs getting banned from the game for a half decade?

I said his results on the court. Specifically him going to the tourney every year, 3 sweet 16's, 1 elite 8, beating two number 1 teams, leading tennessee to be number 1, and not to mention going 3-1 vs back to back champ Gators.

And knowing what we know now I would still have wanted Bruce to be our head coach and do it all again. Give some credit to the guy. He did a lot for our program, you can't neglect his accolades based on one mistake, granted it was idiotic.

I would make the argument that even with his stupidity that ended his career at UT, he paved the way for Martin to bring in recruits like Hubbs and Stokes out of Memphis. He made Tennessee basketball relevant and exciting. Without him those guys probably just go to Memphis.

Again, just my opinion.
