Would you be for Bruce Pearl's return if Martin is fired after next year?

Well it ain't happening this year so live with it....not much to discuss, until the season is done. Pearl well liked and loved. He screwed up. Whether the university would hire him is a whole separate discussion. Probably not but will cross that bridge in due time. Pearl maybe hired by another team by the time we get to it.

So with that thought, support the current team, coach and staff.

There is no way the UT AD wants this appearing during every UT game. Pearl will not be back in Orange.

Why is it so hard to accept this? I don't understand.

Because this is the last time I cared about Tennessee mens basketball, I will always support them but this brand of basketball is not that enjoyable.

When we had Pearl we could beat anyone on any given night.

Tell me you do not miss his style of basketball compared to what we are watching now.

And that was with far lesser talent than we're putting on the floor now. The squad we have now with Pearl leading the charge would strike fear into the hearts of all the other SEC coaches. Unfortunately, Cuonzo doesn't scare anyone. He has a nice, intimidating scowl, but his coaching skills are not quite up to the mark.

FTR, I'm not comparing Martin and Pearls coaching style. I'm just simply asking why people can't let it go.

Why ask why? Bud Dry.

Btw we were reminded during the KY-MSU game about our #1 regular season ranking under Bruce (UT over Memphis in the last 1 vs 2 tilt). That was nice.

Only to gett a bad taste of our current reality a short time later.

Name all the great guards Pearl had other than Lofton, Smith and Watson who he inherited. It was a parade of Ramar Smith, Bobby Maze, Trae Golden and JP Prince types that could do certain things but were maddeningly inconsistent.

Scotty Hopson...

The fact that he won with Skyler McBee, Renaldo Woolridge and Steven Pearl against #1 Kansas should tell you all that you need to know. He made Dane Bradshaw a fan favorite... Bradhsaw was slow, undersized and a poor shooter. Yet, Pearl put him at power forward and made him a team facilitator. This is a player that shouldn't even see the floor on 99% of teams that are relevant. Fan favorite... he would suck on most teams and wouldn't have even saw the floor. We don't even have to wonder what Pearl would do with Stokes and Maymon. Pretty sure the back court could suck and he'd still win just given those two.

If Martin doesn't make the tournament and win a game... he should get Derek Dooley'd. Blame the roster or don't. Doesn't change the fact that he was handed the keys to a Porsche and he ran it into a ditch. Chose Porsche because programs like Duke, Kansas, Kentucky etc. are a Ferrari or Lamborghini. Still, Pearl made this program pretty awesome and people around the country took notice. We're irrelevant again.

and Fulmer's was on par with his repalcements..

i do not agree w your premise that the program under pearl was declining. but no way to really know however 6 straight AA's is pretty strong for any school w the exception of the elites of college bball. and we do know that CCM has NEVER made the tourney.

Pearl set the bar high even for himself. Look at it as the 90's run for football which in my opinion we will never see again. Doesn't make my opinion right but I don't think the Pearl era had staying power. I did enjoy the ride though. How long before the natives got restless for just making the tourney?

It was only mentioned in the context of being the last game between #1 and #2 until last night. No one cares about your one-week #1 ranking when you are unceremoniously dismissed from the tournament in the Sweet 16.

The only #1 that gets remembered is the one after the first week of April.

I'd say the Pearl supporters vastly outnumber the few vocal opponents that accept these results while he is gone.

GOOD Grief, coaching matters. See last night's game. Some Coaches just help teams win.

If Pearl was re- hired ? What would be the worst of it? Kentucky fans don't want that to happen - ticket sales would sky- rocket- - Dick Vitalis would die on the spot . What's the negative here ??

I was called a Pearlophile early on and then tabbed a Martin apologist after he signed on. I didn't know you could be both. I support who is ever in charge of the program. However, it becomes increasingly tough to continue to support a coach when they either lie and get your program in trouble or continue to show that they can't/won't change their coaching style to the current talent they have on hand. Martin has shown over and over again that he is utterly clueless when coming up with an offensive game plan most of the time.

Last night for the first time since Martin has been there, I wondered what Pearl would've done with that kind of talent on hand. I have to think he would've beaten Xavier. Pearl's offense wasn't always the best, but they found other ways to win a lot of times. Martin's problem is that his teams rarely seem to do that. Name one thing that a Martin team has hung their hat on? I'm having trouble finding something.

Yeah people talk about defense but I dont think his teams are great defensively. O'Neill was twice the defensive coach than Martin is.

Oh, come on beast, all of us great knowledge diehards know that it takes at lest 8 or 9 years for a coach to fully get his kids and system in place before we could expect to go beyond the 1st round of the SEC and NIT tourney's !

That's two different issues. Of course I hate losing. But whether we win 10 or 30 this year with Cuonzo Martin, I think it's a horrible idea to being back Pearl.

It was really 1 day because we lost the next night.

38401 is killing it today...especially with the Dick Vitale dying part haha

I'm not off the CCM train yet but I've always been on the Pearl train. IF CCM got canned, who would we get better than Pearl? He loves this school, lives here, apolgized for his mistakes, took us to new heights, made me a true Tennessee basketball fan.

I've seen you say it's a horrible idea a couple times and everyone is entitled to their own opinion...can you explain WHY it's a horrible idea?

I liked Pearl because he could get our guys to play better than they actually were, and I always felt like we at least had a chance to win. Martin showed last night that he doesn't have that.
