Would you be for Bruce Pearl's return if Martin is fired after next year?

CCM's first team made the NIT.

His second team most likely made the NIT

He is going into a make-or-break third season.

Even if CCM turns out to be a good coach, he will never be as good as Pearl. So why are people so against the idea of bringing him back?

Because it is not going to happen. Stop wasting your time clinging to the past.

It is very possible, that's what people don't understand. Another NIT season next year puts UT into panic mode. CCM is out, Pearl can come back in. He's one of the biggest VFLs I have ever seen, and UT would take him back. Suck up any baggage, and we'll be back as a tourney regular. Bruce will know that it's his last chance, he'll be more careful about NCAA regulations.

This is one of the dumbest things I have read. Nobody can logically make an definitive statement on whether or not CCM will turn out to be as good or better than Pearl or not.

So you've seen the future? Can you teach me?

Or can you at least answer a few questions for me?

Okay, smartass. You can tell by the way his players play on the court. The poor schemes, adjustments, Xs and Os, it's been painful to watch UT basketball these past two years. He could turn out great, sure, but chances are he will never match the excitement and success that Pearl did constantly.

That and the "second team most likely made the NIT". Modern day Rip Van Winkle.

Yeah, him and an absurd number of other posters have all been acting like that.

Of course, they are just twisting it to support their argument.

I could say, "CCM took a depleted, inexperienced roster last year and almost made the Dance, and this year went on an amazing run to close the year and will probably make the tournament."

Two can play.

You do realize coaches can improve too, right? Not just players. Coaches learn from experience just as players do. After the February-March we had, I'm confident Cuonzo will grow into the job.

Were the schemes, adjustments, and Xs and Os poor during that 9-of-10 stretch, too? Were we just winning in spite of our coach?

I agree with some of the issues you mentioned, but it's going to get better. No, he'll never match Pearl's excitement, I don't think anyone will argue that. But excitement and success are two different things. Coach Zo can be successful here. He has potential and is still learning.

I just bring up Pearl because I honestly think it's more plausible than most fans do.. a bad season next year and the cries for Pearl will only become louder and louder. Sometimes you have to do something drastic to get your program back on track.

I really hope CCM and our team improves with time. Chances are you guys are right, Pearl won't be coming back. I was thrilled by the progress we made in the second half of the season.. we just have to keep building upon that, and not revert to our usual early season woes.

I mean.... If Martin failed, would I like to have Bruce Pearl back? Probably. Do I think he could be successful again? Probably.

But he damaged the university too much for them to consider bringing him back. Though I'd probably be okay with it, it really isn't a possibility. Just my opinion.

For now, we just have to put our faith in Martin. But I agree, if we aren't like a top-5 or better NCAA seed next year, it might be time to start looking in another direction. That roster is going to be loaded. We better contend.

If only this could happen! Bruce come back!

The same reason there's no point in taking you seriously; it's a waste of time to even consider it.

This thread reminds me of how naive some of you are as to how dirty college basketball has been and always will be.

This thread reminds me of how naive some of you are when you suggest that Pearl didn't participate in any of that, outside of a BBQ, and was a "true VFL."

Care to elaborate Sparty? I think I know what you mean but making sure.

College basketball is dirty. AAU is dirty. Shoe and apparel contracts are dirty. Camps are dirty. Recruiting by highschools starts before middle school for some. Houses are moved into in random neighborhoods, in highschool and college. Some people on here have no idea of the depths and how coaches keep things hidden by playing the "i don't want to know about it" card.
Who really freaking cares that BP had an illegal bbq. I can't imagine someone really would, unless they are just absolutely clueless. BP freaked out and made a dumbass error in judgement when he lied to the ncaa. That's about it. People should be mad at him for being a dumbass and ruining a good thing.

That's what I thought you were talking about. I loved me some Bruce Pearl but he dug his own grave.
