Come on...floyd to usc was a trial balloon floated by haden and that was less likely possibility a year ago...Pearl made one misstep and that was lying to ncaa about something relatively benign...were the previous admin here it would approach zero. They arent and so although unlikely...it aint zero.

I'd say close to absolute zero.

I'll never say absolutely never because I've seen some crazy things happen, but practically speaking...it's not going to happen.

Honest answer, it's completely absurd to think he has any chance whatsoever of coaching at UT again. When I say completely absurd, I mean 100% ridiculous. Will never happen, and no UT fan should ever want it to happen.

I could have sugar coated it, and said nice things about Pearl before stating that I still don't want him here, but that wouldn't be an honest answer. The truth is that Pearl is never coming back, he will never be any kind of a candidate or option, and no UT fan should want him here.

If I were an AD looking for a coach to make my basketball team relevant, based on coaching résumé alone, all else being equal, the choice between the two would be obvious.

True, but only if you weren't concerned with the integrity of your program. One is a proven cheater that apparently does not have the ability to cover his tracks, the other is not.

What number is less than zero? That's the percentage chance I would give on him returning as head coach. We are talking about the UTAD though, so nothing would surprise me. They hired Derek Dooley after all. And Todd Raleigh.

Hard f me to understand how the risk/reward wouldnt be heavily slanted in favor of rehiring him...what is the worst case scenario? What is the best case?

Schools don't hire cheaters or employ cheaters haha. If they did, Pearl wouldn't have been fired. It's not a matter of risk vs. reward.

Wouldn't it be proven liar? No one really cared that he had a BBQ, it was that he lied to the NCAA about it.



Doesn't cheating imply that he did something that gave him some sort of competitive advantage in games he shouldn't have had?

The only lying going on is saying that Pearl is not a cheater. You can try to make it about semantics, but Pearl cheated at Iowa, and he cheated here.

No offense, but your attempt to spin Pearl's transgressions into a positive light were extremely weak, and the argument holds no water.

Pearl at Iowa was against Illinois and their assistants for some recruit, and both parties were dirty and cheating the whole time. Pearl secretly recorded a phone call by on of the Illinois coaches, and turned it over to the NCAA. The recording contained info on a ton of things that Illinois gave to the recruit. That act wasn't the cheating, but it was whistleblowing obviously.

Still not sure why the word "cheater" is brought in, did he illegally pay recruits, get them in without taking SATs etc.? Bruce just acted like an idiot and then got in over his head, a fireable offense, but cheating? I'll save that for some others.

His transgression was 90%(maybe more?) lying about the issue/10% act itself

It's out of the question. Any school that hires Pearl will come under the kind of intense scrutiny from the NCAA that makes it implausible. Coaches who have severely broken rules don't stand much of a chance coaching a major school again. Have you ever seen Dana Kirk of Memphis hired again to coach? No. It's almost a zero chance Pearl will either. He outright deceived the investigations committee.

Do I miss his style of BB at UT? You bet I do. As good a coach as he was, he really let us down and ruined his career in the coaching world.

Little to no chance. It's ashame, because he made UT relevant. Now, look what we have to put up with for at least one more year.
