Did you miss the part where you can recruit character, not just talent, so you can avoid this type of thing to begin with? No, you and 30 want to take the risk just because you may win a few more games.

Name a coach that has never had a player do something wrong?

Did u miss the part where they were kicked off when they broke the rules?

And when you have a coach that asks recruits to lie and break rules, the players reflect that attitude. The football players did under Dooley, doing it now for Butch, and the basketball players did it under Pearl, and now doing it under Martin.

I didnt understand your last statement......what are they doing under all those coaches?

You are speaking out of both sides of your mouth, you just said that u can take the more challenging kids and mentor them. Which is it?

Two recruits, same socio-economic class, one is a 5* but has traits you can see immediately that he runs with the wrong crowds (the thug people are taking risks on) and the other is a 4* but has good character. Who do you take?

Delicate issue. But I would take the four star kid with good character. The 5star may come back to beat you, but the risk of him beating you from within your team is worse imo. Pass.

Name a.coach that had to kick players off his team every year. I can.

Pearl didnt have a player kicked off every yr I dont think(Not going to look it up). The players while at UT got in trouble for smoking left handed cigarettes and one gun under a seat. No violent crimes or anything harming another human being. I dont really get ur point.

The only player I think that was a questionable take is Ramar smith and I felt it was worth it at the time. It didnt work out for us but we were werent choosing between him and a good 4*

Players got in trouble under Dooley, Martin,Pearl and Butch....not sure what ur point is?

Who's gotten in trouble under Butch? Couch? That's from under Dooley.

The point is we have a high character coach and the only issue we've had under him is Golden for something that had been going/started on under Pearl. The players under Dooley and Pearl reflected their attitudes of not caring and breaking rules, etc.

The players under Martin have reflected him. Attitude reflects leadership.

Yemi Makanjoula ring a bell....his transgression was worse than any under Pearl

Eric Gordon was kicked off the team, and Marlin Lane has been suspended.....plus he has been here less than a yr.

A girl accusing you of raping her is worse than being found guilty of the things T. Smith was? Not sure if you know it but being in possessions of firearms with filed off serial numbers is a bit of a concern.

Not saying Yemi was innocent, but how many college kids have been accused of assault by a female that were false accusations?

So Tyler Smith was found guilty in a court of law. Wonder how he got a passport?

He agreed to an order of protection ( meaning there is something there) and pretty much got kicked off/left his team. Yes filed off serial numbers is a concern but guns are super easy to come by....heck I won one in a raffle last yr. There is no evidence he was attempting to use the gun in a crime of any sorts.

If he was truly innocent, don't you think he would still be on the team?

No. That's a risk you can't take. No one truly knows if Yemi sexually assaulted that girl but Yemi and the girl. BTW if he did do it than thank god he's not on the team. I have no respect for people like that.

I posted this in the Pearl to Memphis thread (Around the NCAA), but i'm curious what you guys think.

I hear people talking about how fun Pearl's offense was to watch. Do you guys not remember the horrible flex Offense he ran where two guys just stood at the top of the key until the shot clock was down to 1 sec then chucked it up? It drove me insane. Did people really like that?

Let's be honest, Pearl was a fun guy who could SELL both the program and himself to recruits. As an in game coach he was fair-decent.

Pearl's offense is way too reliant on his press forcing turnovers. Any team with good enough guards to break the press can beat him on any given night.

That's exactly why smaller schools gave him trouble. There are goods guards on every team in the country. College of Charleston made us look horrible with White and Goudelock.

I posted that several times last week. It's like people only remember Pearl's first two years and got amnesia over what things looked like once Chris Lofton and Juwaun Smith weren't around to bail the offense out with the 3-ball. And we barely ever pressed during the last couple of years.

Too many people think the grass is always greener if you know what I mean. They remember the good and completely forget the bad.
