Many times in coaching searches contact is made to see if there is any initial interest. If so there is a ballpark figure put out that suggests to the candidate, this is what we would likely have available to offer you if you are our choice. If the candidate thinks it is still worth pursuing then there is an in person interview. If the candidate thinks that it is close, there are some pre-negotiations to see if their requests can be met. If so they have an inperson interview if not they "decide to stay where they are".

It seems to me we are at the point with CSS and CBG where they have agreed to the ballpark figures that Hart/Dooley have told them they would be offered if they are selected.

Yesterday Dooley interviewed CSS in person and today he is interviewing CBG. There will be no inperson offers as Dooley will likely spend tonight and tomorrow AM mulling over who he would like to select as his DC.

Then when he decides a "final offer" will be made to his first choice and then it is very likely that it will be immediatly accepted without much further negotiations as most have been already made and we will have our DC in place tomorrow afternoon.

Follow that?

I like the line of thinking and hope that it holds true. Otherwise Vol Nation needs to be shut down until a DC is hired to keep someone from jumping off a cliff!

Of course this is realistic, just hate to see the recruiting momentum take a hit. Maybe the solid commitments can hold it together during the process.

I have heard this is the typical "coaching hire conversation timeline". I am sure they vary but this seems to be how this seach is breaking down.

Or said coach has no interest at all in coaching along side CDD and when CDD calls to throw out some figures said coach claims interest. He gets a free trip to Knoxville. He gets the star treatment and the whole ordeal costs him 8 hrs out of his life. For this 8 hrs he gets a 100,000.00 raise in his current position and tells CDD no thanks. It happens every year all over the country.

No we likely could never get past the pre negotiations with Randy. I am sure we reached out and he was "interested." We then probably told him what range we could offer him. He then probably came back with a really high request that Hart did not feel was worth making in this situation. Then both parties decided to part ways.

How many times it went back and forth who knows.

Why go to all of that trouble? Just shake the bushes and hire the first coach that falls out. Then VN can get to the next stage of whining and breaking windows as they protest the new hire.

You act as if there was logic in this process, when clearly there has been none that a normal person would use. A successful HC would have already planned for Wilcox to be gone before the season started since he had already negotiated with Texas before and expressed a desire to go to the west coast. He had no reason to be here other than a gun for hire. A successful HC would have negotiated a package with a proven coach prior to the end of the 2011 season to be ready to give the recruits what they needed to hear before they made a decision. But then a successful HC would be proactive and think ahead. CDD is a reactive HC on and off the field.

Seems the only one it is hurting is Dalton...hope we can still get him to visit this weekend and meet the new DC.

Seems good except for the mulling over part . He and Hart should be able to come to a conclusion this pm at the latest .

The important thing here is it seems candidates have already agreed to terms of a cntract but havn't been formily offered. Thus why we have so many misguided reports.

Now your confusing me. You are talking about a deliberate process that doesn't seem to be resolving and then suggest a coach will be in place this weekend.
