I know Gooden was a substantial loss, but the real question:

Who can get to the Quarterback besides DT? We have been abysmal since Barnett and even then we weren't consistent as a team....

I think we'd all agree you cant win championships without providing a consistent passrush...

FYI: Isnt Kivon Bennett's daddy one of the greatest pass rushers of all time? Maybe top 30? Come on guy!

I think Crouch and Harrison will bring a lot more of that than we saw last year. Fantastic athletes, quick and strong. Good luck staying in front of them on the edge.

Lol. Perhaps.....but I was hoping someone would tell me Johnson turned into a beast, we're gonna rush Bituli off the edge in passing downs, crouch is gonna be a disrupter...etc

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Bituli on the edge at all, especially with To’oto’o around.

Taylor-Ignont-To-Bituli sounds just fine to me.

I hope you're right....I usually don't give alot of stock into true freshman defensive players as game changers.....talented as they may be

The biggest key to our defense will be stopping the run. We've been terrible at it the last few years. We've got enough athletic guys to be good vs the pass, do we have enough speed, strength and pursuit to stop the running game is the big question.

The answer is not going to please you, I'm afraid

Thats not a recipe for an elite D. We need DTs who can get to the QB
Not trying to be disagreeable (this time :D) but iirc Pruitt mentioned "scheme" pressure rather than having a designated position player as the rush guy. My understanding of the very basic ideal for the 3-4 is that the down 3 tie up the OL and get push allowing others to make plays.

One has happened already and one hasn't, pretty big difference don't you think?

Not when your calling someone a negavol yet you have no problem saying The defense has been terrible against the run yourself. It’s hypocritical is all. You can bash the team and not be a negavol but when someone else says it their a negavol. Just lose the double standard is all I’m saying

I agree. But perhaps even more important than an outside pass rush is a DL that can provide strong, consistent push up the middle which prevents, as often as possible, the QB from being able to step up in the pocket.

Bottom line, it all matters if you’re gonna he a great SEC defense. And once you have push up the middle and pressure from the outside your DBs are suddenly much better and your LBs are able to fly around and make plays. It all matters, have to be strong at all 3 levels, but it all begins up front.

For one, I didn't say we were going to have an elite defense. Secondly, I'm not knowledgeable enough to say if your statement is true or not... but I suspect it isn't.
