being a former WR coach, I used to love to see this. We would slant a team to death, or just run right at the CB, make a move, then run past him

well, maybe since we are looking for a co-DC, we will bring in Bates. He has been successful on many levels.

And think about it - this can't be a money issue.

Because we'd go down to 4 offensive coaches, we'd lose a $250k-ish expense. Steele would be $400k. Soooo, the UTAD would have to spend $150k more per year. Do you think that an athletic department with a $75m budget wouldn't pony up $150k more to get a great assistant, especially when the head coach, a local legend, says to? Cmon.

he is a great defensive coach and even better recruiter...hard to believe 100k was holding us back in order to get him

Politically it is not easy to throw that kind of money to assistants.
