The best players and teams you have seen in person.

You're right . . . it was '81; not '82. I had it in my brain that we played them in Athens on even numbered years, but that was before we played them every year.

In other news - I'm officially old.

I wish I was your age. :)

I saw an ESPN documentary that said Marcus dupree was better than Bo and Hershel combined.

The man was a beast. I saw some of his runs on the doc. He has the Fiesta Bowl rushing record...playing half the snaps.

They ought to show that film to every incoming hot shot recruit. Message: talent only gets you so far. Dupree had hall of fame talent but lack of focus and off field influences kept him from being one of the greats. Life is tricky that way.

The best offensive performance I have seen put on the Vols was at Ole Miss in 2009 by Dexter McCluster.
The best defense, VT 2009 Chick Fil'a Bowl.

Watching Jamarcus Russell warming up in 2006 was insane.

His arm could literally be considered a deadly weapon.

I was at that game. I just remember LSU coming out for warm ups and thinking how huge and athletic they looked compared to UT. It was at that moment that I realized just how far we had fallen in terms of fielding a team of elite players. LSU literally looked like an NFL team. Hell I was intimidated and I was just viewing it from the stands. They definitely get my vote for best team I've ever seen play UT.

Best player I've seen in person would probably be Garrison Hearst of Georgia (sp?). Had he not been injured in the UT game, he would've owned us.

I'm getting a little long in the tooth as well.

The first game I remember attending was in 1981. The best team I have seen in Neyland was 2002 Miami, and I have probably seen eight or ten national champions or national champion caliber teams come through Knoxville.

The best defensive team I have seen was 1992 Alabama.

I went to the UGA UT game in 92, at Georgia. They had Zier QB, Hearst RB, and Andre Hastings at WR. That Georgia team had a ton of talent, and we went down there and beat them. It was Fumler's first game as interim coach, Heath Shulers coming out party, and the first time we wore white pants on the road since 1981.

The 1985 Vols are the definition of team.

I agree, the 85 team is still my favorite Tennessee team. Tony Robison is still the most talented QB (not the best) that I have saw play at UT. He had a super quick release, and could flip his wrist and throw the ball 60 yds. I love watching highlights of him.

98 Orange bowl Nebraska their first and second teams were unbelievable. They dominated us up front.
Rocket Ismail had to be the fastest I've seen.
