Op you think Butch will pass the general? Omg. What the hell. Butch has a ton of work to do to ever pass fulmer. And hell almost certainly never pass neyland. Heck...I like Butch and what he's done here so far but he's been making the wrong kinds of list lately. He blew massive leads last year by going conservative way too soon. He was recently ranked around 8th in the sec...with guys like muschamp and beilama ranked ahead of him. Butch has to prove to people that he's an aggressive minded coach that plays to win.

Derek Dooley would have been the obvious choice for him to put there. I liked that he put enough thought into it to come up with a non obvious alternative.

Of course, after the DD years, every other coach in UT history now looks like a freakin' genius.

Either Don Faurot or Dan Devine would be the Mizzou choice. The MU stadium is named after Faurot. Bob Devaney would be on many lists ahead of Osborne. In my humble opinion Bud Wilkinson would be OU's standard bearer. Frank Broyles at Ark.for sure.

Will pass, could pass, I sure hope so. CBJ has left a lot on the table these past few years on what could have been. I do agree he has to allow our players to go out and win the game rather than trying to milk the clock early in the 4th qtr. Call it what you want, but once you dial it down and start trying to coast to a win, it's hard to crank up the intensity that is needed when the game is on the line again. That's probably my only beef with CBJ, how he started running clock rather than scoring more points to seal the deal. Maybe he has learned from last year, I expect he has and with more depth and more experienced players, the game plan will be solid and I think we will execute and this year will be a special one.

I like the direction that you are going in here, but Jock Sutherland should probably be considered Pitt's greatest coach. Like Johnny, Sutherland won a national championship (1937, AP), but his overall record at Pitt was far more impressive: 111-20-12, including four Rose Bowl appearances and a victory there in 1936 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jock_Sutherland).

Duke's standard bearer is Wallace Wade. Not many younguns' on here realize that Duke was a Footbal power in the years that Neyland was at Tennessee.

Duke's stadium is named after the man.

Correct. Wade's overall record at Duke was 110–36–7. He was the architect of six Southern Conference championships and his teams appeared in the Rose Bowl after the 1938 and 1941 seasons, years in which Duke finished 3rd and 2nd, respectively, in the AP poll. Incidentally, Wallace Wade was the first great coach at Alabama and, in that capacity, matched wits with Neyland from 1928-30, losing two out of those three games.

Incidentally, the 1928 Alabama game was the first in which a Neyland-coached Tennessee team faced the Crimson Tide. Neyland attempted to use a psychological ploy with Wade, requesting that quarters in the second half be shortened in the event that the game should become too one-sided in Alabama's favor. Wade agreed but, of course, Tennessee ultimately prevailed, 15-13, due in part to McEver's touchdown return on the opening kickoff. According to McEver, that was the game that "put Tennessee on the map."

For Tn for now Neyland, I expect Butch might have something to say about that.

Bama would be "The Bear", Saban is making a case.

Florida is Spurier aka UT 1st Choice. And Urban would throw in his two cents.

South Carilina is Spurier aka UT 1st Choice again. Lou Holtz by name only, not so much on the field success.

Duke again Spurier aka UT 1st Choice but ole Cut is giving his all for them(that's bull, he should be our QB coach, unless Spurier aka UT 1st Choice wanted some action).

Ole Miss, Hugh is trying to leave his mark(possible stain) I don't know their history, maybe whoever was the coach when Archie was playing?

Georgia would be Dooly, the dogs have thrown in with Kirby.

LSU is Saban, they got hosed. They were good back in the 40's too, can't say less about Les.

Ky is "The Bear", and then Mummy? I bet there are Ky fans that don't know what beat means without Basketball in it.

State would be Jackie Sherrel, have they ever been good?

A&M Jackie Sherrel again, their best was when Johnny Football was there, that coach.

Mo's best coach just retired and they have never been good.

Vandy would be Franklin(I know right). I think they owned us back in the teen's. I always thought Chavis as HC would be a good fit at Vandy.

The hogs peaked in the 50's, and the stumbled away their shot at a NC. So it not Nutt.

VT Beamer .

Memphis is Fuentes.

Appy, the coach they have now, no disrespect I just don't know your name(and way too lazy to Google it, not even a little bit).

Texas Mack Brown.

FSU Bowden.

You get the picture.

Tommy West. The standard for Memphis GOAT is how many times you beat Ole Miss. It's also how long you can manage to be at a program with absolutely no school/financial support, in the middle of SEC country no less.

Tommy beat Ole Miss back-to-back years (in '03 and '04 I believe). He was also the first Memphis coach to take Memphis to a bowl game (in 2003) since 1971. And he was at Memphis for 9 years. Don't get me wrong, Fuentes was great, but he bailed after one good year and he had a LOT more funding/support from the school than West (go check out West's press conference after he got fired) so not GOAT.

Incidentally, I would love to hear the opinions of old-time Auburn fans regarding their preference between Shug Jordan and Pat Dye. Jordan' s all-time record at Auburn was 175–83–7. He was always in Bryant's shadow, but his Auburn teams won a national championship in 1957 (AP) and finished in the top ten seven times (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ralph_Jordan). Dye, on the other hand, finished 99–39–4 at Auburn, which included two outright SEC championships (1983, 1987) and shares of two others (1988-89) and top-ten finishes in five years between 1983 and 1989 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pat_Dye).

I'm not an Auburn fan BUT I am a football fan. Shug Jordan was Auburn to the core. He was a 3 sport athlete there and coached most of his career at the barn. Pat Dye was a Georgia boy and never really seemed to fit the mold. The era was quite different, too. Jordan won with pre-integration teams of corn fed white boys. Dye wasn't saddled with that and recruited a fellow named Bo Jackson as part of his first recruiting class. I could coach a winner around Bo Jackson!

I believe most Auburn folks would say Jordon ... after all the stadium has his name on it.
