These two meet once again in what’s become a yearly rivalry for the two over the last 10 years (though neither will claim it’s a bigger one than Clemson or Kansas).

South Carolina won last year’s matchup in a thrilling fashion, answering Missouri’s 37-yard TD pass with just over a minute left in the game with a drive down the field that ended with a 15 yard TD pass with 15 seconds left in the game.

Missouri leads the overall rivalry 9-6, though if you remove the two games that pre-date SEC membership, it’s been a 7-6 Missouri series record since 2012 onward.

It’s a bit of a streaky series. Prior to last year’s South Carolina win, Missouri had won the last 5 matchups (with 3 of those games being decided by 3 points or less). Prior to that South Carolina was on a 3-game winning streak in this series.

Of course, the biggest matchup in this series is still the 2013 game, when #20 South Carolina ended #5 Missouri’s undefeated season 24-21 in double overtime as Missouri’s 24-yard FG attempt donked off the upright in Columbia, ending the game. (Although Missouri would still win the East Division that year over South Carolina, edging the latter out by 1 conference win).

While Missouri’s offense has played well in its opening games against Central Arkansas, Kansas, and Louisiana, adjusting well to the new RBs and new QB under center, Penn State-transfer Beau Pribula, South Carolina QB LaNorris Sellers is back from concussion protocol after leaving last weekend’s loss against Vanderbilt in the second quarter. Last year, Sellers had 353 yard and 5 TDs against the Tigers defense (plus another 45 yards rushing).

The winner gets the Mayor’s Cup:

I’m kind of surprised ESPN chose this one for the 7pm spot. I feel like there’s usually a hesitancy to pick either of these teams for a main time slot (without a bigger brand there to balance things out).

LaNorris Sellers is expected back from concussion protocol.

This series has always kind of a weird game when both teams are above average or good. It honestly could end up going either way.

fair point can’t say I’ve seen this series that much if I’m being honest lol

It’s one I’ve kind of peripherally kept up with after how good the 2013 game was.

It can sometimes end up with some weird results (be it weird playing conditions, performances, etc).

Still 0-0 at the end of the first. Though Missouri has gone all the way from its own 1 yard line to South Carolina’s 12 yard line on this 8 play drive.

6-0. Kickers man…
Yep. I spoke too soon.

Missouri lost its senior kicker to a season-ending injury and are having to go with a true freshman. This is the exact same way he started off their game against Kansas (though it was with a blocked extra point).

Beamer and Dorkawitz on the same field. Wonder if we can get them to meet midfield during halftime for a slap fight.

That drive fell apart for SC:

almost interception
Short gain run
False start
Sack
Another false start
