So many tiny things in the first half went our way tonight.

1) We got away with a false start at the goal line. If that’s called, we might not get a TD. I’ve seen other games against the Gators when they jump offsides, and we get called for the false start.

2) We almost fumbled at the 1 yard line after a long run. In the past, that’s been a touchback for the Gators, several times. Tonight, we luckily held onto the ball.

3) Joey’s fumble was nearly a disaster, like against OU. We were lucky to get it back.

4) Florida’s kicker missed a chip shot, losing any and all momentum going into halftime. It was a 6 point swing.

Sometimes, everything just works for you. That was us tonight. Another game similar to tonight with just everything going our way that I can remember off the top of my head, was 2010 against Ole Miss. Everything just clicked in that game, and everything just clicked for us tonight. It’s about time it happened against the Gators.

The first game I ever saw against UF was in 1992 when there was a monsoon in Knoxville. Heath dominated the Gators in that game, and Joey dominated them tonight. I can’t believe it’s been 30+ years since we’ve dominated the Gators like that. I hope it becomes a trend!

Sometimes you just get lucky. Tonight was not that night though - it was a complete and total domination of Florida from the first to the last.

I am mildly upset for Heupel going into turtle mode in the second half because I wanted this to utterly humiliate the gators such that their childrens children would shriek when they remembered this night.

But lets not call this for anything else than what it was, a masterful draining of the swamp by our players and this coaching staff - something we have not done in 20 years. kudos to Heupel. Yet one more "record" he has been able to break while here.

We had 3 possessions in the second half and only punted once. How is that turtle mode?

On the other hand, we beat them by three touchdowns and didn't even have to score in the second half. I would have liked to hang a hundred on them, but I am content in my habitation with the end result. Great win. Give CJH a raise and an extension.

Finally, the Vols are on the good side of fortune against UF. For my 40+ years of following Tennessee football vs UF, it’s rarely been this way.

I texted a friend during the game and said the same thing. It seems like Florida always gets those breaks against us and finally, we got them against Florida. That said, we also just dominated the hell out of them.

Florida has the stench of loser all over them this year. When that happens, teams just can’t get out of their own way despite having some talent.

I think we got a break real early that swung momentum. After we scored first, they had a long gain nullified with a holding penalty that brought them back to their 10 yard line. After that it was over. Thorough woodshed beating.

Yes, how many times have we seen a hold like that not called in our favor? Dozens and dozens of times over just the last few years. If that penalty isn’t called, maybe Florida ties the game 7-7, and who knows what happens from there.

This was an absolute shellacking of a UF team at their own house. This was not about luck.

We ran the ball down their throats and simply took away their will to play. Getting ran on and owned at the LOS is just humiliating. They knew what we were doing and still couldn’t stop it. That incredible UF defense looked like Swiss cheese against our run game.

I mean, we ran the ball so well it took a last possession pass to get Aguilar his 200 passing yards.

Guys, we simply dominated that team. Can anyone tell me what our last 5 coaches records were @ the swamp? And when was the last time we beat them @ UF by 20 points?

We got a lot of luck we normally don’t get in the Swamp, but let’s be honest: you make a lot of your own luck. Historically, our guys simply curl up in the fetal position and give up like a bunch of wimps down there. Seen it too many times. Last night, they didn’t. They seized the moment and won. Gotta give ‘em the full credit.

Yeah, it would have been even better if we hadn’t pi$$ed away two other big opportunities earlier this season against UGA and Oklahoma (both at home - sheesh), but I’ll take it.

I’m not making excuses. I think about these kind of things all the time.

For example, in 2008 against UCLA, the refs should have called a penalty on them during their final drive before overtime. They had illegal men downfield, but the refs missed it. If that penalty is called, and UT wins that game, how does it affect the rest of the season?

There are so many examples of one play completely changing the entire game. We avoided all of those mistakes yesterday and were fortunate a couple of times where we usually get burned. It was very pleasant to watch.

I agree that they made a lot of their own luck last night. They were disciplined and focused, which are not two attributes the team this year has shown. It was great to watch.

Special teams the ball bounced in a way to keep them staRating drives deeeep in their own territory. One punt they accidentally field because the ball bounces into their returners chest, a screw up on a fair catch on a kick off, and a good punt fielded properly by us at the 2. Special teams kept them backed way up and they aren’t a team that’s driving the whole field multiple times.
