The ball bounced our way

So many tiny things in the first half went our way tonight.

1) We got away with a false start at the goal line. If that’s called, we might not get a TD. I’ve seen other games against the Gators when they jump offsides, and we get called for the false start.

2) We almost fumbled at the 1 yard line after a long run. In the past, that’s been a touchback for the Gators, several times. Tonight, we luckily held onto the ball.

3) Joey’s fumble was nearly a disaster, like against OU. We were lucky to get it back.

4) Florida’s kicker missed a chip shot, losing any and all momentum going into halftime. It was a 6 point swing.

Sometimes, everything just works for you. That was us tonight. Another game similar to tonight with just everything going our way that I can remember off the top of my head, was 2010 against Ole Miss. Everything just clicked in that game, and everything just clicked for us tonight. It’s about time it happened against the Gators.

The first game I ever saw against UF was in 1992 when there was a monsoon in Knoxville. Heath dominated the Gators in that game, and Joey dominated them tonight. I can’t believe it’s been 30+ years since we’ve dominated the Gators like that. I hope it becomes a trend!
As to number 2? Star did not "almost fumble" He got stripped from behind. And it would have been a touchback if he had not done everything he could to get it back.

Sometimes one little play can completely change everything. I truly believe that happened to us against OU this year. We might run away with that game if we go up 14-0.
Yes, there was a couple in the UGA game as well, the 4th down UGA went for in the 1st, had they not gotten it, possibly a blow out. And the pick 6 at the goal line at Bama. UT is also a missed field goal away from being a playoff team. So much potential, reminds me of the 2015 vols, they had UF beat and gave up a fourth and long. Had bama beat and their qb somehow dogged a sack near their endzone and as he was falling forward, somehow managed to keep on his feet for like 10 yards for a first down. They also lost to Oklahoma at home which they had the lead on early, but both Bama and Oklahoma were in the 4 team playoffs that year. That 2015 team should have been in the playoffs

Sometimes you just get lucky. Tonight was not that night though - it was a complete and total domination of Florida from the first to the last.

I am mildly upset for Heupel going into turtle mode in the second half because I wanted this to utterly humiliate the gators such that their childrens children would shriek when they remembered this night.

But lets not call this for anything else than what it was, a masterful draining of the swamp by our players and this coaching staff - something we have not done in 20 years. kudos to Heupel. Yet one more "record" he has been able to break while here.
There was no turtle mode. We hadc only 3 possessions in the 2nd half and the first possession was doomed by penalties. The 2nd drive should have yielded points if the kicker could actually kick FGs. And the last drive would have been TD if we wanted it to be. But it was the end of the game.

Yes, how many times have we seen a hold like that not called in our favor? Dozens and dozens of times over just the last few years. If that penalty isn’t called, maybe Florida ties the game 7-7, and who knows what happens from there.
Give me a break dude. UF wasn't going to be in this game regardless. They had like 12 scholarship players missing. Several starters on defense alone. They were being coached by an interim coach that has no reason being a HC. Our OL pushed them around all game and our defense held UF to under 300 total yards.

They didn't stop our offense from moving the ball all night. Not one 3 and out. And the only time we didn't move it into their territory was the 1st drive of the second half where 2 straight penalties backed us up to 1st and 25.

I said before the game we would win by 2 scores or more. This UF team is just bad

The number 1 factor was the officiating. It's amazing how bad we can whoop somebody when they get called for holding and we don't. We did get away with at least a couple that were pretty obvious and that was the false start and I thought picking up Lagway and slamming him was a little much as well. The refs let us play and that's how good we can be when left alone. That's exactly how Bama and UGa get to be "so good".

You have to make your own luck. Good teams prevent that. We struggle with quality teams for that very reason. FL was a game where we could capitalize on them being a bad team. Tickled to death that we won, but it doesn't change my perception of the team. Vandy is going to be ready and chomping at the bit to beat us at home. We better find a way to make more luck if we are going to win.

I think we got a break real early that swung momentum. After we scored first, they had a long gain nullified with a holding penalty that brought them back to their 10 yard line. After that it was over. Thorough woodshed beating.
I think the two biggest “breaks” were 1) the holding call on the 1st Fla possession pass play (it was clearly a hold) & 2) recovering the strip sack fumble.

After it got 21-0, I think it was over.
