He’s not with that contract. Mookie and Freddie contracts won’t age well — who saw that coming??

Freddie's contract has aged as well as the Dodgers could have ever hoped. First basemen generally fall off a cliff around age 33. They basically got 3.5 great years out of him and an insane World Series performance.

Now Betts on the other hand is problematic.

Their position aging corps is getting up there. Freeman, Betts, Muncy, Smith, Edman, Ohtani, Hernandez all over the age of 30. And their pitching bets have been a disaster. Wouldn't shock me by mid 2027 they become middle of the road.

Freddie has been alarmingly bad for two months and it doesn’t look flukey.

He has been dealing with a hamstring issue, and ankle. And now wrist. When he is healthy he is still very good. Once again, his health should be y’all’s angle. That’s the problem. He is still a talented baseball player.
If the 35 year old can’t stay healthy … isn’t that a contract aging poorly? Isn’t that your angle with Sale?

He certainly didn't luck his way into a 1.078 OPS through May 31. His statcast data was elite through May 31. He notably tweaked his quad in Early June. That was probably something he was able to play through 5 years ago without much drop in production, but he simply can't do that at age 35. He's also had several injury issues this season dating back to the start of the season.

He will likely bounce back once he's healthy. They would probably be better in the long haul if they gave him a quick IL stint to rest everything.
