The Atlanta Braves

Crazy thing is that Rich Rod had agreed to be the Bama coach and was packing his things until some idiot on the board of trustees for Bama leaked it to ESPN before he could tell his team.
Shows just how much luck is involved in those types of decisions. Not only were they lucky that Saban was available to begin with, but they had to get lucky again (they just didn't know it at the time) for their #1 option to fall through.

Imagine what happens if RichRod takes the Alabama job in 2007 and Saban still gets fed up with the NFL. Around that time, Tennessee, Auburn, Michigan, Nebraska, Texas A&M and FSU all hired new head coaches.

FSU would have still hired Jimbo but yeah it would have been something. Saban isn’t the take a year off type so it would have been really interesting. He probably stays one more year at Miami and then takes the Michigan job after 2007

I agree. Everybody thinks he'd have taken another SEC job, but Michigan is the one that might have broken the bank to lure him.

Well it was a perfect job at the time. Lloyd Carr still had a good program and was still prestigious, Carr wasnt quite a legend so you wouldn’t have to try and live up to that and the roster was in solid shape for what Saban would have wanted.

I wonder what happens to Ohio St if Saban went to Michigan. I don't think they would have been terrible, but I doubt they are anywhere near as good as they've been since 2008. A huge component of Ohio St's success over the last decade-plus is because their primary foil has been mediocre. Can you imagine the Saban/Urban showdowns that would have occurred every year? Wow. That could have been a Ten Year War part deux.

You all will point and laugh at me but since Michigan is the topic I am shocked Harbaugh hasn’t done better. I wasn’t necessarily thinking national titles but I figured he’d have a couple Big 10 titles and while he’s been fine…I am quite disappointed.

I guess it depends on Meyer if he takes the job or not.

Although Luke Fickell was next in line if Meyer didn’t take it and he’s a really good coach so 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

I will say in fairness to Rich Rod he never got a fair shake. He was improving every year but the disastrous bowl game did him in. Brady Hoke went 11-2 his first year. I don’t think it would lasted long term (look at his Arizona stint) but I think Rich Rod could have won a Big 10 title eventually.

I am surprised too. Michigan is his only coaching stop that hasn't been highly successful. He's been successful there, just not highly successful.

IMO, I think it is because he isn't doing anything at Michigan that is particularly unique anymore. Look at the stops he's had success; he was great at Stanford running a highly physical offense in a league not known for it. He was successful with the 49ers running a read option offense in a league that hadn't seen it and wasn't ready for it.

At Michigan, he runs more or less a typical offense and specifically has had trouble finding a QB. Harbaugh appears to have success when he does something outside the box relative to his competition, but he hasn't done that at Michigan.

Well he hasn’t recruited as well either. Ohio State especially just routinely blows by then with their athleticism. And then he hired an absolute dunce for an OC in Josh Gattis. He’s HORRIFIC.

It isn't like he was a top recruiter at Stanford either. He was always behind, sometimes well behind, USC and Oregon and even sometimes schools like UCLA and Cal. High academic standards there, and he's tried to use that as an excuse at Michigan too.

Harbaugh is not going to out-recruit Ohio St right now anyway, even if he was recruiting well. They are a juggernaut and all the athletes in that part of the country are in Ohio. It'd be like Heupel or any Tennessee coach coming in here and trying to out-recruit Alabama or Georgia.

He’s not. But at the same time he shouldn’t having issues against teams like Iowa and Michigan State with athleticism. It makes little sense. He does well in he rankings too. Just been a disappointment

True, I think that is where his scheme might be a problem. He doesn't have the athletes to compete with Ohio St regardless, but he's trying to beat the other Big Ten teams by playing like a Big Ten team. In the past when he's had success, he hasn't really operated like that. At Stanford he didn't play like a Pac-12 team, and with the 49ers he ran a new, innovative offense that the professional ranks hadn't really seen yet.

We’ve played five games in the last eight days and roster expands on Wednesday this is stupid roster management

Also, Almonte won’t be eligible either for the postseason because he won’t be on the 40 man by 9/1 so that’s even dumber

Tomlin- 3 appearances in August

Santana- 7 appearances in August

Chavez- 7 appearances in August

What are we even doing man???

Like is it that big of a deal? No. But why is Tomlin on the roster? Why can’t you give him a fake IL stint? It’s so absolutely dumbfounding
