Minus in front of the number means the amount you have to risk to win $100. Plus in front of the number means the amount you win on a $100 bet.

Ex: -200 means that team is favored, and you risk $200 (or $20, or $2) to win $100/$10/$1. +150 means that team is the underdog, and you risk $100 to win $150.

I've got that. What I'm asking is what is a heavy favorite in a money line? -140ish?

Ultimately subjective I guess, but I'd consider anything in the upper -100s or more. Certainly anything -200 or more.

Depends on the sport as to where that line is, imo. In MLB, -200 to -300 is a pretty strong favorite (and a bet I wouldn't lay). I don't think they get to 4 digits (-1000) like in other sports but don't watch that closely.

Not even close to -1000 ... anything more than -200 in baseball is pretty wild. Occasionally you’ll see -300+ and I think I’ve only seen -400 a handful of times, ever
