The Atlanta Braves

@Wickman i think you're sleeping on Elliott a bit bub.

I don't want a coordinator either, but if it's going to be one, I want him. You can see a jump was made at Clemson when he took over the play calling in 2015 and if he can give some Clemson staff a better position/raise? I think he has a high ceiling.

Given where the program is...TE would be an excellent hire. I think folks have quickly fallen back into the illusion of we what were in the 90s combined with the excitement and hope that DE brings.

Again, like BOB...he’s not my first pick. But he would be a good hire and I’m cool with it.

I’m not arguing with any of that. I think he’s a great play caller. I think he has potential. I also think he could be well in over his head the first few seasons. That is something we cannot risk. We need someone that knows the intricacies of being a head coach. We aren’t a place where you can be an intern. It isn’t anything against Elliott. He may be great. But his floor is huge as well.

I think I’m more and more coming to realize that effective offensive play calling might be the trump card.

I’m genuinely asking because I don’t know:
Other than Day and Riley, who has made the leap to a power 5 without being a coach first and has been successful? I actually think Smart has underachieved if that odd possible while making the playoffs.

Jimbo went from OC to HC at FSU and Dabo. I'd have to think hard about others. You're right there. It's a huge risk.

So the only successful ones in recent memory (Kirby included) seem to come into a talent-filled team.

Edit: James Franklin is an exception but he can kick rocks

Name any coach who has come in and been successful by that definition. News flash: Alabama, Clemson and Ohio St are the only successful college programs in the 2000s.

That’s my point. They need to be a head coach at a smaller university first. It rarely is successful and we aren’t in a spot where we can throw a dart.

The entire point is we are dangerously close to being Nebraska and we are gonna hire a coordinator? I don’t see how we can hire him unless we get turned down by quite a few people.

no. The point is guys being hired from smaller schools aren’t being successful either. No one is being successful besides Saban and Dabo. Dabo was a lightning strike propped up by COORDINATORS and Saban is the 🐐

Why is everyone all over Elliott’s junk? Our AD didn’t even hire him during his last search. By that logic, we should hire Heupel. Y’all are supposed to be the rational guys and I am the only one being rational. We can’t have a risky hire.

Brother, the dude with the gonads to take this job will be risky.

No one is on Elliott’s junk, just willing to give him a fair shake if White seems him the guy.

White didn’t hire him THREE YEARS AGO? That’s a detractor?

Every hire we are going to make will be risky.

My argument has nothing to do with his play-calling ability. He looks like he is a fantastic play-caller.

If a district manager at Walgreen’s was promoted to the CEO of Walgreen’s, the would be a huge learning curve. The guy has never been a head coach on any level. We can’t afford that right now.
