The Atlanta Braves

They don't seem to realize that with no salary cap when you sign a free agent and all he costs is money, it's like he's free! You get to keep all your assets!

I'm not even angry at them for not pursuing the Bryce Harper-like megacontracts. It's just that these MFers make moves like an NHL or NBA team who is right up against the salary cap when there's no reason for it. Not to mentiont that the Battery is sitting there throwing off money.

No I’m sure AA knows that. Liberty Media just doesn’t care. They want a max profit. And Schuerholz/McGurik do not believe in long term contracts.

They’re never going to give out long term FA deals. The biggest free agent signing they’ve ever made is $75M for BJ Upton. Hell JD was their first FA signing that made $20M in a season! Yeah they’re a Cole or Strasburg away, but they won’t do it. They’ll patch holes and try to get ā€œvaluesā€ and ā€œbargainsā€. And what’s even more hilarious is they won’t even need to pay Acuna or Ozzie because they basically stole them for long term extensions!

Now I’m just depressed.

This would have been a sweep if ****ing Snitker had kept Fried in the 8th of game 1 or brought in Newk to face Wong. God I’m so mad again.

I'm really ticked off at the way the team has treated Acuna. Threw him under the bus game 1, it's been a talking point all week, even though he's the only one really doing anything. Then Flaherty throws at him today and his teammates do nothing. Nobody comes out of the dugout, there's no retaliation.

You have to wonder what Acuna is thinking.

The other thing about this organization and makes me chuckle is if you’re going to be penny pinchers, then one advantage you can give yourself is having a good manager. And instead we run out Snitker, a career minor league coach whose best attribute is ā€œthe players really like him!ā€. It’s pretty ridiculous.

After the Athletic interview this spring I'm not sure I still blame Liberty Media per se. It seems pretty clear that McGuirk has complete autonomy, a sweetheart deal from Cobb County in every way possible, and a massive new revenue stream from landlording. The money is available! It's just that McGuirk seems to think that paying construction bonds off early (ie, "investing it) is more important than spending it on mid-range deals for baseball players ("spending it"). Which would make sense if the Atlanta Braves were a 40 year old couple who needs to retire in 25 years. It makes zero sense when interest rates are so low and the windfall from a World Series run would be so huge and long-lasting and the Braves are an immortal corporation who could string out that debt for 100 years if they need to.

Even if we argue about the decision makers (whether Liberty Media cares or not truly I don’t know. Hell the only reason they bought the team was because to avoid penalties in a merger, why do they even have the team???), they obviously believe, since Ted Turner left, they won’t give out long terms deals. And won’t try and sign big time players. It’s not their belief system. Hell look at 2014. Instead of spending money to fix holes, they decided to blow it up completely and save money and build again through the farm.

Our offense was terrible for about 40 innings out of 45 innings. We need to be deeper. Top 4 was great. We need better production than Markakis/Flowers/Ender offensively.
Can’t help thinking about what happens if you sign Grandal and run Camargo back at 3b instead.

I feel bad for Acuna. After getting escorted by Molina, and nobody moves or retaliates... that's just sad. I'm done with sports ball. I see nothing worth rooting for.

Maybe I get 2018 Camargo, maybe not. I won’t complain about the JD signing though I think we are slightly better with Grandal.

The decision to re-sign Markakis for a full time role was indefensible. Prevented us from getting Castellanos too.

It’s all conjecture, but I don’t think the Snit/Acuna relationship is probably very solid. Acuna was begging to stay leadoff in ST this year and Snit blew him off till May also.

I dont disagree that they sucked. I just think pitching has big holes to fill as well

It does, because we don’t have a true superstar ace. I don’t believe a guy like Zack Wheeler actually fixes anything. He’d be a nice addition though. But I’d rather spend to get a Cole or Stras (but I know that won’t happen either).

Well at least the Detroit Lions look good so far!

(sobs loudly in a corner)
