Here’s why I’m not totally opposed to trading Waters. BTW I really like him and think he will be a good player. But here’s my reasoning.

1) We will have Acuna & Pache. We know Riley isn’t a disaster in LF. We are trading a little from a position of strength.

2) He’s a switch hitter so it’s gonna take some time for him to develop. Like I don’t think he’s in the majors before 2021.

3) His value is super high right now but he has a .459 BABIP and 26% k rate. That is not sustainable haha. His value could drop over the next year or two.

Posted this in the boxing thread, I know it seems like it is mostly MMA fans in here but this one was strangely affecting to me.

Damn. Getting ready for work this morning my wife had the TV on to one of the local stations and the news was on, story about a pedestrian being hit and killed by a car but that the police weren't releasing any information about him until they had a chance to notify the family. Now at work a few hours later and see that it was Pernell Whitaker. My first, and still favorite fighter ever. Partially due to him be from my hometown but also just because he was an absolutely amazing fighter. Had some demons in the past but met him once a million years ago at a basketball tournament I was playing in and couldn't have been a more awesome guy. I still go to the gym where he trained a long time ago, pictures are up of him everywhere and he'd still pop in every once in a blue moon and talk with to kids who go through speed training course they do there.

Sorry for the random interruption, please recommence any and all trade discussions.

Riding this thing out with Riley at 3rd, Acuña in LF, Pache in CF, and Waters in RF - even if Pache and Waters aren’t “special” like we think they are - allows so much financial flexibility going forward.

We’re going to be contenders for 5-8 years minimum if they don’t screw this up, given how cheap Albies and Acuña’s deals are.

I’m for keeping Riley in left and resigning Donaldson for next year

I’m not saying they ever use that flexibility to spend big. In fact, I’d bet they don’t. But what all this young, cheap labor allows them to do is what they’ve done with Donaldson this year. Fill holes in the lineup. It’ll never be Harper or Machado - but we’ve proven it doesn’t have to be.
