Says we made an offer to both Kuechel and Kimbrel, and that Kimbrel wanted 6/$120M early in free agency.
Kimbrel's continued absence from a MLB roster is the most interesting one to me. We're in an age where pitchers don't go deep, as much emphasis on having a good bullpen as there's ever been, and here's a guy who still throws hard with 333 career saves not on a team. And it isn't like he's 35 years old - he'll be 31 in May. Is his shaky World Series last year really scaring people off that much?
Why your reasons for star closer Craig Kimbrel still remaining a free agent are wrong
The only issue you could reasonably take with his asking price is the number of years on the contract. As the article point out, Chapman got $85m over 5 and Jansen got $80m over 5. Both signed in winter 2017. Kimbrel reportedly wants a 6th year. That's pretty clearly where Kimbrel is getting his average salary per year number. His asking price, especially when viewed in terms of AAV, is not absurd at all.No, his asking price is. And no one wants to give up a draft pick either.
