This dude on cnbc just dropped the mic

He said I’m going to tell you what someone told me when I broke into this game 60 years ago. He told me, “kid, never bet on the end of the world. It’s only gonna come once and you won’t be around to have won anyway”

100% correct which is why I won't totally go into the fetal position and start stockpiling cash. I may be old . . . but I'm not that old lol.

It's always cracked me up that there are CDS on US Treasuries. It is essentially a bet on the collapse of the system, but the bet itself relies on the system working in order for you to get paid.

I mean, if the US government defaulted, 1) do you really think you would collect, 2) even if you collected would the currency that you collected in be worth anything, 3) even if you collected and it was worth something, would the world be in a condition where it would even matter? It boggles my mind.

Place bets on bear markets, sure, even nasty bear markets. And if you are close to retirement or need a bunch of money relatively shortly that changes the equation. But 98% of people should just be long and stay long. Consistently put money in, and add more after big declines if you're pretty young and have the cash to do so. That is a recipe for disaster if you're a trader but most people don't need to be trading. It's a very rare individual who can successfully trade these markets.

Lol at people thinking that’s a lot of money.
